You told your wife and she let you go ooo . The skinny dipping is at the crack of dawn on the same day as a classic car show no points for guessing which one I went to. As you come up the A1 and you get to Newcastle you will see two ESSO garages on the North and South side . Keep to the east side of the road and head for the tyne tunnel put £1-60 in your pocket . If not the road around the metro centre and for about 10 mile is being dug up and its a 50mph-40mph-30mph . You may get stuck in it ( in a +8 ) AND ITS HELL .I asked swmbo what the place was we stayed in . Its called Armstrong House LOOK IT UP ON GOOGLE ITS £50/- FOR A SINGLE ROOM PER NIGHT. and is spotless and it is in Bamburgh it was built for Lord Armstrong who owned the castle in the late 1800s for his work force if ill . It is up a private drive has its own car park and you will be given a huge room with a view and left to yourself . A large b/fast , one or two people are living in it as a home It's a bit like faulty towers. Spotted an Admiral on the list . You are 5 mins walk from the main road, use the Kings Head hotel good beer and you need wider trousers and stomach after a plate full ( thats not a joke ) at a good price. DO NOT FORGET YOUR CAMERA AND BINOCULARS .
Places to visit
Holy Island check the tide
before you reach it on the A1 several mile South you will see a sign pointing west for Lowick and Fenwick take it for a run when you get time after a few mile you will see a road sign and a narrow road to the South take it . It leads to a farm park up and walk up the hill top to St Cuthberts cave . Its stunning and so is the view from the top take your bins .
If you take the road to Lowick, Fenwick and over the top to Ford its a stunning ride call in at Etal thatched pub and castle. Or head to Branxton church its next to the battle site of Flodden ( very moving place ).
You can go over the border at Coldstream ( watch out for the wild haggis ) and head for Duns JIM CLARKS MOTOR MUSEUM .
But you must take the road from DUNS to BERWICK THE ROAD the VIEWS ARE STUNNING you can see for 30 mile , take your camera , its the best view I know.
Also North Berwick and the Forth along with Bass rock .
I could write forever its on our doorstep and we still have not seen everything . Fill up with petrol as only 1 petrol station on A1 between Newcastle and Berwick and you have to park in the middle of the A1 to go over to it with idiots shooting past both ways , its hell . If you like walking go to Craster you can walk to the huge old castle about 2 mile there and back. But seagulls and your car PLOP so take a wet cloth in a plastic sealed bag . If you are interested in the origin of man then about 2 mile south of Craster they found one of the earliest Mesolithic settlements at Howick .

ENJOY YOURSELF .
