Hi, A friend is getting his KP's replaced on a early 80-ies 4/4. If he doesnt fit the supplex kit, does it still make sense to fit shorter rebound springs to get rid of the "falling rate" effect of the compresses rebound springs? I notice the factory applies this already? My 2010 Roadster rebound springs are un-compressed in rest (can be turned by hand). Are shorter rebound springs available? When I look at the parts site (e.g. @ Rutters) I only see one rebound spring, "for all cars" Any advice on spring selection welcome. Cheers J

Have a read of this in Morgantica , Peter Ballard knows all about Suspension setup and designed Suplex. It is important that the length of the top springs are correct when you shorten the rebound spring, if too long you will increase the ride height. Depending on how you friend wants the car to handle then he may need to increase the spring rate of the top springs or it may be too soft on the front suspension.

Hi have a look at Mulfab site. There is a lot of information regarding springs etc. I have no connection with the company but the owner is very helpful Andrew

I notice the factory applies this already? My 2010 Roadster rebound springs are un-compressed in rest (can be turned by hand). I don't think that is usual. My 2012 Plus 4 was certainly not like that. I suspect either someone has changed the springs or that a weaker set of top springs were installed. Personally I believe the fitting of the correct springs for any given model may have been a bit haphazard. Mine were changed under warranty because the wrong springs were fitted. I eventually fitted Suplex.

Or they did it on the roadster but not on the plus4 in line with the "character" of cars. I have heard other Roadster drivers confirm this (and the more compliant ride). Anyway, good advice all round, Ill have a look at Mulfabs, and re read the morganatica site, but ultimately, I guess its what the owner prefers. Cheers J

I think it may depend what is in the spring bucket when they build the car and what their thinking was the best option at the time.
My factory original springs were a mix of bilstein and suplex.
The red rebound springs didn't turn by hand on my roadster.

Peter, I remember at the time we bought our plus4s end 2011/ early 2012, that we did not have the loose bottom spring whilst both the 4/4 and roadster did. I always wondered if we were missing out.

My 2008 Plus 4 had compressed rebound springs when new. However, after I got air springs at the rear, the rear end is just a tad higher. This is enough to put a little more weight one the front axle, and now the rebounds can be rotated by hand. Hence, the air suspension at the rear improves the comfort from both ends. Harald
