Nick Thanks for that. My 4/4 has the old style flip-up chrome cap, so it looks like I will just have to put up with the odd bit of splashing on my shoes. ps as for your new and well earned status

You forgot the drips on your jumper, caused by poor hand/fork/mouth coordination.

Filled the SS last night (for the first time in 3 months!!!!) and checked the flap. It was hinged about 5 o'clock. I rotated to 12 and started to pump - only for it to vomit the fuel back out again I rotated to 6 and it was fine for the first 20 litres or so - but then returned its normal gentle pressure fill. Next time I am filling the car I will play with the flap (ow er missus) to see if there is a correlation. I was wondering whether being very low on fuel caused the vomitting back? The car took 43l of fuel having oscillated between 3 and 11% fuel remaining - in heavy stop start traffic. Those 3 months returned just under 20mpg - in contrast the B5s in similar diving over the last 6 weeks has returned 18mpg!!

The hinge needs to be at 6 o'clock, not 12, with the two holes at 12 - if that makes sense. I've had a couple of chuck-ups too, however the fuel fill is considerably better now.

Ask to the dealer to check if the small tube (not the big one) is not clogged with fuel (number 12 http://www.aero-racing.co.uk/partsbooks/supersports/fuel%20system.htm)

I filled again on Sunday morning - twice in a week - the poor car is getting over worked I had clocked 30km of local driving in it - then a motorway cruise to Gruyeres, then some local driving to Broc and then spirited driving over the hills to Montreux (with an AMG45 in pursuit). The fill up was 32.4l for 325km - 10l/100km or 28.2mpg in old money. Which is rather impressive in my book. I will aim to fill her up again this week - as the chances are the steady cruise back along the motorway will have produced rather good economy.
