I noticed a few oil drips on the garage floor but could not decide where it was coming from so tightened the oil hose clips & topped up. A little oil on the outside of the tank but swollen cap gasket seemed no worse. After a 30 mile run to the distillery on returning more oil underneath. Back in the garage oil dripping off the bell housing & lots on the outside of the oil tank. A shred of rubber had come of the cap gasket but was lying on the top of the level indicator in the tank. Matching the shred with the gasket I think I got most of it.
I made another temporary gasket out of two layers of gasket paper.Gasket paper has now gone into my box of essentials to carry in the car. Its easy to make a paper gasket. Lay the paper on the top of the upturned cap & gently tap round the lip with a ball head hammer. This will cut the paper to the correct size to sit in the lip in the cap.

A lucky escape - shreds of rubber are very good at restricting the oil supply to the engine - make very sure you have got all of it out - not most of it!
If you seal is swollen its a disaster waiting to happen. Don't wait for it to get worse - that might be too late. If its swollen get it sorted without delay.

Getting the M3W ready for the 11 hour drive to Grindelwald in the morning, ticking over in neutral and checking everything OK when I see oil dripping on the floor. Dripping becomes a puddle! Up on ramps and it appears to be coming from above the housing. Bonnet off and oil tank is covered in oil. Lid off - seal gone!
Tank drained and cleaned and parts removed. Now put in a cork disc instead of rubber.
Panic over!

Gone as dropped in the tank. I guess it fell in as I unscrewed the cap. Anyway, tank drained, cleaned, refilled and now has a cork seal rather than the expanding rubber one!

Im preparing my m3w as the weather will be acceptable in a month or so.. I changed the bevel box oil with redline. I removed the engine oil cap. The gasket looks like new but once i pressed down on it fell apart!!! I did a new flat thick gasket, oil resistance.

Nadvys that's how my gasket looked. It cannot be that difficult for Morgan to use a gasket that is up to the job. Anyone found a ready made gasket to fit?
