Took mine out yesterday and heard a tinkling sound from the front end. Stopped at the side of the road and looked underneath and saw a set of long-nose pliers sitting in the towing hook! Slightly worrying as she had just been serviced and who knows what journey down the engine they made before lodging where I found them. Look on the bright side, you're up one set of long nosed pliers

right lost first long answer as I hate this android thingy.
So first, car is a long door lowlife has low profile wire wheels or something, looks same to me but garage can tell difference it is Janice car.
Ps I use Gill Sans light all the time

In village of St Pee sur nivelles is A P Cars near Bayonne and guy is A car enthusiast, I found him because there is a rally at st jean de luz this weekend and I got a brochure at VW dealer one of the helpful garages.
Anyway off with the wheel and it is the off side wheel bearing, very noisy, might last so I sent for the bits but a tool is required.
All else is good wheel, tyres, brakes etc.
Thanks for the help.

Does not seem too common because Berrybrook my local agent have no tool for this job and have never done one, guess I am unlucky!

Does not seem too common because Berrybrook my local agent have no tool for this job and have never done one, guess I am unlucky! What tool do you mean? Surely you can just knock the half-shaft out with a slide hammer.

Just to update you, despite the noise presumably made worse by load on the rear axle with heavy family members and luggage I managed to limp the car back to Santander and then limped it home from Portsmouth to Exeter, car left at Berrybrook and I also decided to fit a panhard rod.
Sorry about the spelling before android thingy decided to edit my typing, Mr Mog is a gentlemans auto carriage lowline of course not a lowlife!
Dunno why it decided it was a janice car?
