Fantastic 300 mile drive up from Perranwell Morgan today, what a fantastic car, as a former Caterham owener I agree with whoever it was that described as like being in a big Caterham.

Couple of initial questions - do any of you know how to unjam the air vents so that they will open and close? Also, if there is any way to stop the driver's side vent from blasting boiling hot air out permanently despite the temperature or fan settings?

The three vents in the middle were trying to blow out cool air - feels like the aircon does work a bit - but the side ones seem permanently set to "sauna".

Thanks in advance chaps,

Glad you enjoyed the drive - what a fantastic day to make your first aero journey!

Unjamming the vents I'm not sure? Perhaps a little grease? Perhaps post a pic to show us what you mean?

As for the hot air, I founf there was heat soak from the engine on the s1. Usually most noticable when driving with roof up and windows open. Windows shut no problem and roof down no real issue. I think on mine it was just a pressure difference meaning that air from the engine bay getting pulled through.

If its just coming from the vents then someone else may have an idea about how they are configured and what you can do.

Look forward to seeing some pics soon!

Absolutely no advice to give on vents etc but congratulations on your first drive, you picked a great weekend to pick her up smile

By the way, that smile you describe, is still with me three years on every time I press the loud pedal laugh

Cheers

Thanks guys - already sorted the vents out, looks like some previous owner had sprayed a hard setting substance on them so they'd been kinda glued open.

Another question - anyone know what the tyre pressures should be on Pirelli's?

There are setting in the owners manual, and there is a complete thread on tyre pressures for s1s in the trackdays section in this site which may be useful.

Glad you got the vents sorted smile

Hope you don't mind guys but I am one of those very detail sensitive folks that likes to understand every click and whirr on a new car.

So, two new questions:

1. Brakes, mine seem to have quite a lot of travel and are a bit spongy, they work fine, just want to know if this is normal or not

2. Clickety clack sound on acceleration heard if the road is surrounded by hedges or walls for it to reverberate off, and also clickety clack a bit on tickover when I got it into the garage. This would normally suggest to me either tappets or leaky exhaust manifold - any ideas out there?

Edited - just to add been out in her again today, can't keep my eyes of the damn thing, I absolutely love it to bits - I'm about to go and sit in the garage so we can share a pint together now, don't know where my wife is smile

1. Brakes normal
2. Likely to be a blow in the joint either at the front or rear of the silencer under the wings just where you sit. If this is the case then it just needs adjusting.

OR...
1: Brake fluid needs replacing or air in system

2: Park it in a quite place, pop the bonnet open, give it a few revs, and listen for the sound confused2

Another question chaps:

Speedo accuracy - according to my TomTom when the speedo indicates 100mph it is actually doing 87mph. Is it possible to recalibrate the speedo?

Thanks again!
