Excellent description of the Tory Party...! I agree 100% with your analysis.
I also tend towards the wet one nation Conservatives.
Although Labour seems to be going through a period of silliness, rather as they did when dear Mr Foot was leader, there is another structured opposition force that will keep the Conservatives focussed. SNP.
Mrs Sturgeon will soon realise that a Scottish referendum will take away her power in Westminster and so I predict that she will back off with that idea and end up as leader of HM Opposition. Perhaps.

We had a referendom on proportional representation and it was rightly rejected. Proportional representation has caused a lot of problems in Italy. My prefered electoral system is that of Australia: optional preferential voting for local representation in the lower house and STV (Single Transferable Vote) for State representation in the senate. It tends to produce a reasonably stable government based on a quasi 2 party system (Labour on the left and a stable coalition on the right). The Senate on the other hand tends to be more proportional with smaller parties achieving the required quota and often holding a very influential "balance of power". An interesting item on STV here And the optional preferential system here Just back on Aus, seems to be a hybrid of the UK and US systems - just reading though, they are on their fifth PM in five years - don't know the reasons, but doesn't sound like a great way to go about it - worse then Italy isn't it?

No one commented on the opportunism by the SNP on Corbyn's election.
For all the words of support that Sturgeon gave Corbyn the SNP have more or less given Corbyn a vote of no confidence by banging on the independence drum once more.

Only two elections in that time (last year and in 2010). Rest has been back stabbing inside the parties in the hope of hanging on to power. Technically two of the PMs were the same (Welsh) woman!

At least this has got us talking about politics which IMO is a good thing to do. I am prepared being a socialist to wait and see before making a judgement before I start waving the red flag!

I've never really been that interested in politics, and as I've said before, my constituency has a huge Labour majority anyway.
But the prospect of a Labour/SNP coalition at the last election made me realise that I'm a conservative. Especially on the subject of defence.
What will be interesting is whether Corbyn can undermine SNP support in Scotland. I think he may be a danger to them, especially if there's a whiff that Corbyn could win an election - leading to tactical voting in Scotland.
I wonder how he views independance.
So, all very interesting.

Those of us who have almost lived our allotted 3 score years and 10 know from experience that labour have always cocked up the economy. When youger I was a union rep and know how an unrepresentative minority of Trotts
can control branches. I fully agree with the proposed restictions on the rights to strike. Lets us hope that Labour soon return to their senses as we do need an opposition.
