People laughed at Farage and Salmond initially but they had to be taken seriously when the weight of public opinion went their way. Ultimately though they and Corbyn will be consigned to political obscurity and the old order will prevail……… unfortunately.

It's probably my lack of understanding of the issues but I have trouble identifying Scotland as a "Country". It may have been an independant "Kingdom" at certain points in history, but having been part of the Union for so long, I don't understand the obsession with a separate identity. Especially since so many Scots chose to leave and live in "England". Or maybe the ones who move south don't see "the border" and are content with the Union.
Plus the fact that a sizeable percentage of people who live in the main cities in Scotland are probably from outside the UK anyway so dilute what is Scottish. I just don't get it.
Sturgeon seems to think that they have a monopoly on the anti-Westminster lobby, but such feelings are alive and well in Yorkshire, which apparently is a similar size in population and output to Scotland, but we don't drone on about independance. Too busy out walking the whippets.

I have every sympathy for Yorkshire, as I do for the North East in their being over shadowed by a loud mouthed SNP who represent less people and a smaller economy. York was once the capital of England. If Scotland does go independant I would not buy any of their produce and ensure my investments were moved clear of Edinburgh.
I dont understand the independence thing - there are so many Scots south of the border and English north.
I talk to people in Edinburgh and Glasgow daily as part of my job, apart from the accent the people seem the same as other parts of the UK.
There are advantages and big risks involved but still it wont go away, but there must be a good reason why it is so compelling for so many Scots to still want it.
Drove past Faslane on a recent trip to Scotland which was interesting including a peace camp with a sign saying been here 30 years - pulled up some images - is that chap JC in the eighties?

As every Sturgeon caught within 3 miles of England has to be offered to the English Queen first why don't we net Nicola and offer her to the Queen and have her stripped of her Caviar. At 45 she may still have some, this could be effected in the Tower whilst alive = end of Independence mutterings for a while. She becomes a martyr overnight and every body is happy.

This must be the first time I have really disagreed with you, Dave. I consider Scotland to be a country, as I also consider England and Ireland to be countries. The UK is a collection of countries as I see it.
PS I have heard several Yorkshire folk "drone on" about independence.
