Recently spent many hours researching luggage options for our first big trip (2700 miles) in the Morgan. Having now completed the trip I can report back on the performance of the selected items.
IT Luggage Medium 4 Wheel Suitcase - Silver. Argos £34.99 This fitted very well onto the rack and despite the several hours of driving rain that we experienced in the Italian Alps it kept the contents dry.
Montane Transition 60 Duffle Bag - £58 Go Outdoors. This fitted perfectly behind the seats and has no zips/sharp edges on the upper surface that would have damaged the rear screen when the roof was down.
Sounds like a good solution. I never seem to have much room behind the seats, with the side curtains, tonneau, hood, computer bag, tool bag, camera bag, wife's lap blanket, etc. So usually have a single Suitcase on the luggage rack. If it looks like rain, I use a plastic garbage bag. Your solution sounds a bit more elegant.

In addition to the foregoing, try out a sailing dry bag. At around £50.00 they are great and 100% dry. Indeed, if it fell overboard, your clothes would float. Only downside, when going into hotel receptions it does look like you are carrying a body.
My solution is a big Rimova (curtesy from Lufthansa for frequent flying) Lots of space, very light but stable. When heavy rain I use the tonnau for rain protecting the zippers.

I like the ribbed aluminum look Hannes. Reminds me of the corrugated wing on the JU52. Very Lufthansa.
Our solution is an enormous Brics Bellagio. Not withstanding the excess volume still manages to fill it up, if not with excess clothing that comes home still clean then with shopping purchased on the trip
Here it is rigged for wet weather with the optional cover. The zip is almost completely concealed and even without the cover is shower proof. With the cover we have never had a drop of water enter the case.

How true.......................................... Overboard is our holdall and it's fantastic. The side fasteners go around the rack, so in theory no additional securers are needed, although I use a spider as insurance. On this photo the MMC Boot bag is behind/underneath.

If you are after dry bags these are better for packing cloths as they have a bigger opening and are completely water proof. They do not look as good as those Ali cases though!
