So sorry to hear this: yes cancer is still a big killer and it is the sheer unpredictability that makes it worse.
For some it is a slow process, for others horribly quick. It took my Father in Law 18 months to fade: cancer of the throat.

I'm just beginning to realise how common this disease is, they tell us we are winning the fight, but you could have fooled me! It certainly brings home the fact that none of us knows whats around the corner, so without being silly, we intend to live a lot more for today and not worry quite as much about tomorrow. Thanks to all of you for your kind thoughts.

Always sad news...............
I think "at our age" it's inevitable that you will have encountered cancer in someone close. My uncle (who was a Normandy vet) had a slow death in his early sixties. My mother in law went the same way as Peter's father in law - 18 months of treatment for throat cancer but she just withered away. That followed straight after MrsW having post natal depression for 18 months, so a long period of stress and misery - but thankfully losing her mother didn't cause a regression. They were very tough times.
In some ways, a quick exit is better, especially for the patient. My grandfather sat up in bed when the alarm went off for work, and flopped back down dead. He was 60.
A colleague at work was contacted by the police recently to be told that her husband had dropped dead in the street, aged 53.
Every story tells you to live life to the full. There may not be a tomorrow, so if you want a new Morgan - get on with it now.

Sorry to hear the news. Yes it is a B*****d... is now clear in the short term (bladder), but lost her best pal to leukaemia early Sunday morning... Lost my Dad to it when he was 64 and my Sister just before her 50th birthday - different forms of cancer, but the end result was the same...

In the middle of May my brother in law was diagnosed with lung cancer, not to worry as immediate treatment was available and the consultant was optimistic. Very quickly he found out it was the most aggressive form of cancer and despite all the efforts of the medical team, passed away in the early hours of this morning. I cannot get my head round the speed this all happened last Weds we had a conversation and said see you at the weekend, Thursday to all intent and purpose he had left us. Cancer really is a B*****D of a disease. Worthers Very sorry to read that.... awful. One of my guys in the office has just been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer - he's mid 40's. As others have said, it's utterly devastating and leaves us all feeling so impotent.

Very sorry to hear your sad news Derek. I think that after speaking to you both on Thursday, that this was going to happen sooner than later and very difficult for you both. You have my deepest condolences.
