Hi there, doing a big spruce up on my '81 +8. Want to replace the Facet fuel pump located by the fuel tank as its most probably the original item and whilst working, I'd rather replace it now that wait for it to fail. Is there an "improved" pump option that I should consider or just replace it like for like ? Also thinking of fitting a Moto Lita wood rim steering wheel. What diameter would you go for being in mind getting in and out of the car, would you go for flat or dished. I tend to prefer a larger steering wheel if only for reasons of aesthetics so looking at 15" dia. Appreciate comments from anyone who went this route. Thanks Steve

Go for a facet silver top for a std plus 8. Red top for higher fuel flow. Take a look on Amazon and you'll find plenty of choice.

I'd go for a 15" flat wheel, which is what I did on my '93 +8.

Yes I definitely agree a 15 inch flat wood rimmed wheel is a good choice for aesthetics and lighter steering.

As an added precaution I would fit an in-line fuel filter between your tank and new pump.
They are cheap enough and will protect the new pump from tank grunge!
I did this when fitting a new pump to my previoys car...a 4/4' a couple of years ago as my pump failed and I think it was due to grunge from the tank. I drained and flushed the tank as an extra precaution, finding some "bits" in the fuel I filtered and flushed with.

I'd go for genuine Facet Red Top mounted as near the tank as possible and an adjustable pressure regulator under the bonnet.
I've used a Filter King combined regulator/filter on the 1972 4/4 but that was because I picked up a new and boxed one at my local car boot sale for less than the cost of a fish supper
