I suppose it depends on one's priorities. A £400 service probably uses less than £100 in consumables, the rest is just labour.

Would I spend £300 to get someone else to service my car, or would I spend it on half a dozen bottles of excellent malt whisky and as a bonus have a pleasant afternoon in the garage fossicking with the car?

Bit of a no-brainer for me!

Parts are, as you say, about £100, the oil and filter being the main part..

Without a hoist servicing an Aero isn't easy: a lot of the labour is down to checking the suspension and where needed adjusting the joints by taking up any slack. This also means adjusting front wheel alignment.

The car certainly feels tighter and is quieter.

I'm happy to pay....

Drove in heavy rain today roof and sidescreens in place. Found that the sidescreens funnel some spray between the door and leading edge ( just by the mirrors) which periodically squirts into the car.
Quite amusing really as we were both laughing at the random spray of cold water - no danger if falling asleep at the wheel!

The water gets forced up the mirror base.

Neoprene will fix it!
