Have any of you Mac users out there upgraded to El Capitan operating system? If so do you think it worth while and does it have any negatives? I'm a little sceptical having up dated my iPad to iOS 9.1 and am now getting far slower speeds and frequent instances of the web site I'm using dropping out (not sure that's the right term but I loose the site and get a message saying a problem occurred and the site is being reloaded) sorry I'm a technophobe and worry about these things!

Yes I upgraded on my 5 yr old iMac, its not a sea-change like Yosimite was, some changes seem to smooth background things a little, I think its mostly internal. And it seems to work seamlessly with all other apple devices, including any IOS 9 which have also auto updated, including Apple watch. I read it allows steam computer users (PC's) a better interface with IOS devices, but I wouldn't know, like most people who move to the dark side from a PC, i wouldn't move back. Ive just thrown away a 6 year old Laptop cus its so slow in comparison.
Web use is the same but I do have over 40 gigawotsits download so its instant anyway. Don't hesitate Ive always understood that you should always update when Apple asks.
Downsides - none as far as I can see.

Yep - upgraded and can't tell the difference.

Actually the split screen thing is handy as I quite often work on word documents that reference spreadsheets or emails.

I was musing today just how good Macs are - and how much 'we' (not here necessarily) criticise their amazing reliability and ease. I've been a Mac convert for a couple of years after seriously heavy PC use (home, office and recording studio).

I upgraded one of my computers a week or so back, and did another one last night. The only issue I found was with one of the Windows 7 virtual machines, which needed to be reconfigured for some reason.

Otherwise everything seems much the same, maybe marginally quicker.

I can't say that I'm a fan of Apple, but definitely always liked El Capitan...

I thought of the Costa Concordia. Simple mind.

Ensure you have 10Gb of free space for a smooth upgrade
It does take a while to download
No huge changes but seems to run at same or slightly better speed
Happy I did the upgrade.

Some MacBookPro's have had small WiFi problems (Broadcomm Chips compared to Intel on MacBookAir)

Using a two/three year old MacBook Air with basic spec.
