As a follow to Adrian's recent posting I made a call to Williams to ask about pricing for the 5 Link Rear Suspension.

The answer came back today from Henry, after he had a chance to total everything up and give those of us who are eagerly awaiting this, a couple of numbers.

To cut to the meat of the matter based on his estimates of installation time and the components , the Bilstein (non-adjustable) option will be £3500 (inclusive of the dreaded VAT) the Quantum (fully adjustable) option will be a bit more at £3750. Both prices are fully fitted.

Obviously this is not a cheap option , but David and Adrian's analysis and opinions are very positive (and I also trust Rob Wells who has spent as much time on Morgan suspension as almost anybody), and I am certainly not put off by it (although I might have some problems selling this one to my co-driver)

I think the only way to assess if this is right for you and your Morgan is to arrange a test drive in the Williams demo car and see for yourself . I can't wait.

Well having had a few days to collect my thoughts and drive my car to bed in the new brakes, I would say that I would probably go for the 5 link if I had the £3750, but I would be tempted to fit myself which I think would save at least 10 hours labour which would about £1000 inc VAT. It does not look too hard to fit once the old cart springs and shocks are removed. But I could be wrong. I would probably change the front set up with slightly stiffer springs, unloaded rebounds, and a few other ideas I have, with Quantum bump/rebound adjustable shocks, a sort of Suplex but not quite, more spend If I don't do SpeedMog then it will probably be on the list, but when I have no idea ooo Maybe a I need to have a clear out of stuff I do not use and get on Ebay. by the way my car is intended to be a keeper, I would hesitate to do it if it wasn't.

"my car is intended to be a keeper, I would hesitate to do it if it wasn't."

Would the cost of the 5 link kit not increase the value of the car at sale time? If it did, even if not by the full £3,750, then my man maths would say this helps justify the expense of fitting the kit. I would have thought it would be even better on the 3.7 Roadster than a Plus 4, with all that extra torque.

How else could you drive your new car to bed?

The fitting cost will vary depending on who fits either of the systems so it could be less if you use your local garage with lower overheads .I presume from this that both systems are now available to buy in kit form with instructions ?

Not so sure on that one, some would want it and others might not, if I fitted I would keep the original parts and then could always put it back as it was before.

My understanding originally was that it could be fitted by competent individuals, however I am not so sure that it is the intention to sell the 5 link as a kit now, as I have heard that people are being trained to fit it.

Oh dear , my nearest Morgan dealer is Allon White which is an hours drive away and no doubt they'd want it for a while ? But on the other hand its very important to have it correctly fitted !!

Hi Guys,
Originally I had the number2 preproduction kit fitted to my car.I now have the first actual production kit fitted I honestly think you really need to know Morgans inside out and understand how the kit works before having a go on the drive so to speak.I have no commercial involvement with Suplex I am just a customer who was lucky enough to be asked if I would allow my car to be used as a test bed because it was the only 3.7 just round the corner from the people who engineered the kit.
I was under the impression that a certain number of experienced Morgan workshops and the manufacturer would be trained initially to make absolutely certain that the set up was spot on and customers would be as delighted as I am.
If you read Adrians excellent posts he had to make adjustments before the kit would do what he wanted, these adjustments would normally be done by the installer for the customers requirements,i.e track day firm ride steady Turing more compliant etc also I understand that the kit will only be fitted to cars that have the front RS kit installed.
This is my understanding from the last time I spoke to Suplex and PJB.

Ihope this is of help.

Regards David
