It "appears" the airlines are willing (without any external pressure) to "step up to the plate" (response in 3 working days) to meet their industry "compensation obligations" just by filling in one of "their" claims forms.
In return for this (I thought benign) offering to TM I get a mix of high minded moralistic comments tempered with some balancing views of other within the TM Community. Anyway each to their own. Those that are openly critical of the EU process and my gall, as a customer, for claiming against it, just bear it in mind when you are next screwed by the travel industry.

Thank you for posting this information. Personally I think that the airlines should be held responsible. The amount that they have to pay would often be insufficient to compensate for lost connections and other costs. I will certainly make a claim if the situation ever arises.

Yes, again, thanks for posting this.

I guess the EU decided to compensate people for their time [3+ hours delay] & the likely ensuing inconvenience, rather than the price of a ticket.

And rather than have the whole thing descend into a bureaucratic soup of allowances for varying degrees of delay & inconvenience, it looks like the EU took an unusually pragmatic view, and imposed a flat rate fee, regardless of the flight cost.

I guess the airlines insure against having to pay out.

But at least by having a flat fee, and airline should be able to pay out quickly.

So full marks to the EU for clear & simple regulations [who'd have thought it!!!] and for EasyJet for processing a claim so quickly.

Just had an update from easyjet confirming that having validated the card I used to purchase the ticket from which they extracted the ticket price in about 2 secs.
They will pay my compensation to the same card in between 15 and 20 "working" days. ie 3 to 4 weeks. It is amazing how these big companies have the high speed electronic processes in place to take money in but steam driven process to pay money out! Still we will see?

For the record it's recent EU legislation that has been hard fought against airlines hiding behind all sorts of excuses not to compensate. Usually they used the 'force majeure' argument which prior to the legislation could cover just about anything from one of their own aircraft breaking down to their own staff going on strike....now it's all time related, if they delay you they pay. Within certain time parameters of course.
