So the car HASN'T been officially sanctioned by the Royal British Legion then, just a trim up & paint job with a view to highlighting Oakmere & the RBL.

Maybe it's best described as an 'homage' or a tribute to the organisation, after all the only reference to the Legion is the letters RBL on that removable dash plaque & the script on the headrests.

Colours & trim items are always subjective, and won't suit everyone so I wouldn't lose sleep on that score, but why two cars?

Having worked long and hard with a charity supporting the National Memorial Arboretum, I'm well aware of the necessity for written permissions from charities when people decide to make a personal statement vehicle for commercial profit and I'd be very surprised if such a quality outfit such as Oakmere shortcut this.

I started the reply, then got distracted by the school run so finished it and posted later - didn't see the intervening comments including the one from the dealer.

Also, forgot to say - first ever 'modern' Trad I have preferred with a spare wheel rather than a flatback. High praise and quite a personal U turn.

I will back out now other than to say that the car "was" indeed sanctioned by the Legion and I am sorry if I didn't make that clear in my previous post.

We are still awaiting their official press release and photographs as they wanted to do this once the car was in location in Manchester. I have very personal reasons for supporting them and don't feel it's necessary for me to go into any further detail, needless to say, I thought it was a good rather than a bad thing to do.

Just a point on the light beige carpets

I've had several company cars with light carpets - a BMW with very light grey carpets and an M class Merc with light beige carpets

Had them both for three years and did around 100K in both sometimes with the family and both carpets looked hardly soiled when I handed them back

And I didn't regularly spot clean them - just hoovered out with a brush attachment every couple of weeks

I think it's a complete misnomer that light carpets spoil quickly

And especially on a Morgan which will be looked after and driven less than a company car

Echos almost exactly what I thought, except I think the black kit makes sense. I'm very pleased that Jonathan came on and cleared up a few points.

I think the cars are something rather special and as such they are bound to cause a stir with some people liking them and others not. Without a doubt the lucky new owners will love them. Lets face it if a new owner had come on with a photo we all would have complimented him so why criticise it just because a dealer has had the idea.

After my father died when I was 14 I came under the wing of Legacy in Australia.

"Legacy is a charity providing services to Australian families suffering financially and socially after the incapacitation or death of a spouse or parent, during or after their defence force service. We currently care for around 90,000 widows and 1,900 children and disabled dependants throughout Australia."

In those days they ran an activities centre for children in Sydney and every evening that I went there the following lines from Laurence Binyon's poem were recited.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn;
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning,
We will remember them.

Followed by the words "Lest we forget"

One of my old regulars once took his golden retriever to the local BMW dealer and told them that he wanted a car with an interior which matched his dog's hair.

Quite amusing all the subtle backpeddling after Jonathan's two posts and rather disappointing about assumptions that he didn't get sanction from the Legion. I thought we'd be better than that on here.

As I said early, brave of Oakmere to commission the two cars....not bold. And for a worthy cause too. Good on you Jonathan!
