Pete I don't have Sydney Harbour and the possibility to sail out through the Heads anymore but I do have a 24 footer, a lake to sail it on, and I can see them both from the window.

You have to take every good day when it comes - a bit like Mog driving! The weather has been appalling over the last couple of months for sailing, but our Frostbite series starts on Sunday, so it's bound to get worse!  I think there are a few of us sailors on here, Lowebird. I've been doing it for 60+ years, and I intend to do it for at least another 20. Managed my first Atlantic crossing this time last year, RTIOW and Impala Nationals this year, and now planning 2016.

I used to race in the lymington winter & spring series in a contessa 32 - I have memories of washing the ice off the decks with sea water. When the boat's owner had heating fitted, all of a sudden there was no shortage of volunteers to do previously less popular jobs, such as popping below to make tea, or pack the spinnaker & so on. We had some great times in those series despite the cold. Much as with a convertible car, the best fun can often be had on a crisp winters day.

So true, Giles! Our Fostbite series is by far the most popular cruiser series - if you dress up in the right kit, the snow and ice on the deck and the sub zero temperatures add to the occasion, and make the post race tot even more enjoyable. It looks as though Spindrift has picked up speed again, but she's going to have to have very favourable weather to get close to the Jules Verne record now. http://youtu.be/KSXL63So1koI liked this drone footage of rounding Cape Horn. Rob, You are so right about the correct kit to keep warm, and as the sun is now shining, I am getting dressed to take the Moggie for a blast up to the N.Norfolk coast with maybe some fish and chips on the beach. Sadly, I have missed out on the wonderful mild weather for sailing as my boat came ashore in early November, Boo Hoo!!! Reg
