Breaking Water

In spite the foul weather in Aberdeen today, I took a walk out around Girdleness point and thereabouts to blow away a few cobwebs. The photo shows breaking waves at the south breakwater and its beacon at Aberdeen Harbour entrance. Not a good day for boating.

We do get some interesting sea states in the North Sea - have seen some impressive damage after storms have gone through - and also done quite well out of repairing some of it!

Haven't read the Stevensons book but have just got it on the Kindle so it's in the queue for reading.

I did contemplate a different title, perhaps something based on my having to get myself upwind of the tripod while holding it down against the force of the gale that was blowing, so it would have to have been "Breaking Wind" I suppose.

Some more from today and some other seascapes here on Flickr.

Fantastic weather. I love being near the sea and I love lighthouses and big waves so this is superb.

Some really superb pictures there Callum. Being born by the sea I think the salty air is part of my DNA and always feel at my best either by the sea or on it.

Great photo, I just love watching rough seas...and lighthouses as the two go together. We stay in a lighthouse keepers cottage in Cornwall every December, for those interested Trinity House let most English lighthouse keepers cottages out via letting agency 'Rural retreats'. In Scotland go to the 'Visit Scotland' web site, we have stayed at Sumburgh Head lightouse in the past as well.

Great shot - I've sailed P&O to Orkney and Shetland several times but I'm glad to say I didn't share this view.

Great Shot, Calum! And some of the other photos on flickr are as fantastic as well!
I live at the german north sea shore and love this rough sea - as long as I can stay at shore. Last year I have sold our little cabin cruiser to make the advance payment for my morgan 4/4: this was a good trade-off ...
