Last night on the haunted fish tank there was a programme about the rise and fall of the long playing record and I thought, as a change to favourite cars we could have favourite LP's so, as a starter for 10 here are my top 5:-

Dark Side of the Moon----Pink Floyd
The "Beano" album----John Mayalls Bluesbreakers
Rumours----Fleetwood Mac
Those will date me if nothing else does !!

I like most of the albums mentioned already. Glad to see Brothers in Arms has made it as I am a drummer in a Dire Straits Tribute! www.direstreets.co.uk

It was quite easy listing my favourite 5 albums until one thinks of all the other great artists in my collection that I have missed out so I have only included albums where I like every track from start to finish.

There are others such as Court of 'The Crimson King' (King Crimson) or Seventh Sojourn (Moody Blues) that have some favourite tracks but cant be included as each has one or two tracks that I cant stand.

I must be one of the few people that still buys cds. I could never look after vinyl properly! I hate the idea of downloading individual tracks as is the norm these days. There is nothing better than sitting down and listening to an album in the order it was intended with the lights dimmed and a good glass of malt. I wonder how many people still do that these days?

Here is my selection headed by an album from Tears For Fears that surprises many of my musician friends but I believe to be the most perfectly recorded albums of all time and one which never gets a mention. Roland Orzabals vocals are incredible and is complimented by the then unknown Oleta Adam's beautiful voice and piano playing. A sophisticated album from a band that started out as just another pop band.

If you have never heard it check it out. Its a Masterpiece from 1989.

All the above are high on my list , a record player is a must in every household , much more characterful than cd's , don't bother with compressed music !

As Aerotaff says, all brilliant LP's and as we all drive Morgans that must make us all very classy people and, in my case at least, all old enough to know better but young enough not to care !!
