I still have all of the LP's I accumulated while I was at university. I just could't bring myself to get rid of them.
Any Godley & Creme or Lou Reed fans out there?

.... or Lou Reed fans out there? often had a walk on the wild side  and is there anyone out there who is a fan of Jon Lord's "Sarabande"? Bouree was the perfect bedtime song...

This is a really interesting and most difficult one for me as I have a range that goes from 1685 to 1985 with a few bits after that.
1. Hot Rocks 1964-71 - Rolling Stones
2. The Collection - Frank Sinatra
3. Tubular Bells - Mike Oldfield
4. Collection of Louis Armstrong including What a Wonderful World
5. Goldberg Variations - J S Bach
This is really difficult!! The above is a cross section of music I like but I would say that
tomorrow my list would be slightly different!

When I saw this post I knew it would be very popular. The wife and I are always choosing our 8 gramophone records for when we get castaway on our desert island. Its surprising how it changes.For what its worth here is my choice of 5: Pink Floyd - Dark side of the moon Travelling Wilburys - Volume 1 Love over Gold – Dire Straits Rumours - Fleetwood Mac Buena Vista Social Club – Live Carnegie Hall The list definitely dates me to a post war (national milk powder) child.  The last one is a particular favourite of mine, as you can see from my avatar, I love Cuba. As an aside Vinyl is far superior in sound quality to CD's especially when you combine it with valve amplifiers, the difference is astonishing. I have built my own amps over a number of years and can highly recommend the result. Peter.

This thread shows our generation has so much in common, quite independent from different nationalities. I wonder if our kids or grandchildren will have a similar experience when they reach our age.
When I was young one was a conservative or an socialist (and because of all the discussions we had to know the other side as well). Nowadays the societies are splitted in so many segmented groups without interaction and a big part of youngsters conversation is typed into a smartphone without real face to face communication or confrontation. We had to fight to wear blue jeans and long hair while our kids have to hassle where to find the best spots for their vaccation.
I am convinced we had a more intensive live than they have. And we had the better music!

I go for walks around our area and am amazed at the litter that's dropped, remember the TV advert "Keep Britain Tidy". Don't want to turn this into a moan but they were good times. Peter

Avoiding jazz and classical - as 5 is painfully too short a choice for even one genre - Adding to the choices above I'd have to include Velvet Underground and Nico (the Banana album). Revolver (Beatles of course). Blue or Hissing of Summer Lawns by Joni M. I'm Your Man by Laughing Leonard Cohen. And the first Rickie Lee Jones album (if anyone remembers her). If I were to pick an album from 21st Century it would be the eponymous 'The Libertines'.
