It will be interesting to see if anyone with a Fairbourne screen in the UK fails an MoT test, come the time. Construction & Use regs require that a screen through which the driver has to look needs both a wiper and a demister. We can get away with the fly screens (despite often looking through those myself when it's wet), as it's always possible to look over them. Not so sure about the FC screens in that regard however, particularly for short-ar5es like me smile

But as usual, it's probably down to the MoT tester at the time.....

In the US the screens must have DOT engravings. MMC isn't doing that. Also the tires and headlights must have DOT markings. Again, MMC isn't complying. It's why Maryland inspected and failed the car.

So then what do you do? Take the flyscreens off, and install Blockleys or Excelsiors? if even those have the proper DOT markings.

It's not about yearly inspections, or even inspections upon sale, only in trying to get Maryland to accept the cars. Mt dealer is readying a car for another inspection that will hopefully comply with Federal regs (you'd think MMC would do that for the USA market). Once MD approves, each car would not have to be inspected. My car is shipping right now with tires, headlights and windscreens that are not USA compliant. Like I said, you'd think MMC would be shipping cars that meet the regs under which they were approved, but nah...

Im sure part of it is the fact that ever state is different. You must have the first car in MD?

Not the first one at all. The others have flown under the radar. It's US regs, not each individual state, that require DOT compliance. Obviously Morgan got the car approved with DOT based on compliance that just isn't being met. It's not up to DOT to make sure the cars continue to meet the specs required. That's up to the manufacturer. Now... if DOT becomes aware... Kinda like of Chevy stopped installing seat belts; there's no DOT inspector at GM making sure.

By the way, getting air into the tunnel to cool the BB is easyley acchieved if you take the first two screws out of the bottom tunnel cover and bend it down a little. I suppose you could use a couple of longer screws and a spacer if you want to secure the cover.
