I would expect a new car in this class to have a hood that is as functional as the new MX5. it's not a new car, it's an update of an existing car which itself was an update of another existing car, which itself .. given the limited build numbers, and limited development budget, MMC have done quite well.

SFO, May I take issue with you please, according to the in depth article in Mog magazine and I quote:- " Morgan has taken the approach of looking at it as an all new car, not something current that they can simply tweak" As for that roof, "It's been a long fought battle by the designers and craftsmen to get it right, but it's one that has paid off immensely" I don't think so!! Don't get me wrong, I love Morgans as much as anyone on this forum, after all I have owned 3, however I and many others will still maintain that the hood is not fit for a car in this segment of the market.
Here for a good time not a long time!! Reg

I'm on the fence with the hood issue. After seven and a half years with my Roadster I think we've had the hood up twice. Both times due to really heavy rain. Once at the start of a journey and once near the end, but on a motorway so very inconvenient. So although I'm not in the market for an Aero 8, on the basis that the hood might never get used, it wouldn't bother me if it was a tad fiddly.
But on the other hand I like a mohair hood over a PVC hood, even though I might never use it, and I prefer the easy up over the nine stud traditional hood. So none of this really makes sense.
I suppose that if the ARP4 had been a normal looking trad with a nine stud PVC hood & spare wheel I would have probably bought one. So the hood isn't top of my agenda. I do accept that at £100k you might expect something similar to an MX5 mechanism.

seems like sales talk to me, it is at its core, a derivative of the existing platform, nothing ALL new about it.

That car is in great need of an owner who will use it, Plus 8s demand use. Tarka will have run over 23,000 miles this weekend. First registered on 2 April 2014....and getting better every day!
I'll have it Peter - it'll certainly get used! Have you got about £50k you could 'loan' me? Cheers !

I think you have to be realistic regarding the hood. It's certainly waterproof so it does its job admirably. To develop a hood along the lines of the the MX5 would just be too expensive for the expected production numbers of the car. So this is the best compromise.

The carbon seats are an option on the new Aero - not cheap £4800.

Rover Cars in the early to mind '90s couldn't design a hood on its own and had to sublet the design to German and Italian coach builders. Even these weren't 100%, so what chance has Morgan got?

I'm on about the same ratio as Dave for using a hood once in 3.5 years. I'm looking forward to seeing the new Aero close up. I did see the demo at Mog15 but I guess a lot has moved on since then. Strangely, I do think that if my lucky numbers came up I would want to find an Aeromax Coupe to go in the extended garage/car collection along with my trusty 4/4 Sport.

... if there has to be a compromise, then I'd rather prioritise along these lines... 1 the soft top is watertight 2 it's stowed away neatly when not used 3 one person can put it up, reasonably quickly 4 the process to put it up is obvious, so that I can remember how to use the thing, 6 or more months after I last used it. Yes, it would be lovely to have 2 screen catches to undo, and to flip the lid back, one-handed. Not having that once-in a blue moon convenience doesn't outweigh all the good bits in the car.
