This should be interesting. When motoring journalists look back at Morgan, what will be the Golden Age?

To my mind, this began with Cuprinolled wood, long doors and stainless bulkheads. With alloy bodies and Superform wings.
With a range of cars which included a V6 and two V8's over time. It seems that this era will draw to a close by 2020.

So in my world, the Golden Age was approximately 20 years - 2000 to 2020.

Am I right or am I right?

Personally, I'd put it 30 years or more earlier, when MMC was building comparatively inexpensive, light, good performing sports cars that normal chaps could buy, modify and compete in.

By the turn of the last century the cars had changed into expensive luxuries that, notwithstanding the fact that they were vastly better built and greatly more performant, were positioned into a market which required that the purchaser had a sum equivalent to 3 or 4 times the average income to be able to afford to buy them.

But having said that, would I prefer a 1970's 4/4 or a 2000's 4/4? Unquestionably the latter smile

Depends on your age and when or if you had one along your family and health .
Would not mind a Peter Morgan 1980s +8 3.9L twin Webers with a few of my own ideas .

When they make archaeological excavations in a few hundred years at Malvern they will discribe that they found a carpenter with a huge vehicle fleet.

Depends upon your perspective. It's all tied in with age and social history.

50's/60's Americana is a fashion, pre-war vintage a snob fashion. 70's slowly evolving into cool rather than naff.

Morgan..? I reckon the Aero's will be a Golden era.

2020 is the Doomsday date according to Euro emissions of course, and will dictate the future of vehicle propulsion means.

Enjoy while ye may..

I think the Golden age ended when heated windscreens were introduced and you could not easily use aeroscreens and simple dashboard wiring became tricky circuit boards. Is that too luddite?

It started when I joined the Company as a tour guide two years ago.

Well....no......I rather agree with Mike, the 1920s and 1930s with all the sporting success and the introduction of the 4/4.....although I'd problem extend it to the early '60s to include the win at Le Mans.
These days it's now a lifestyle car and apart from the hardy few who, still compete in their cars, the Motorsport side has faded away....I won't mention the badged LM2 car....that was an expensive farce!

So sad that the Aero 8 2004 Le Mans adventure didn't continue.

That's certainly a difficult question. I suspect we tend to be bias'd towards the cars we own. For me (2) from the 30s, (2) from the 50s and (2) from the 80s. And, then again, in America we are limited by import possibilities.

Now I have something else to keep me up at night . . .

Cheers,

Mark
