I have recently bought 4+4 four seater ,im 6"3 and no stranger to the larder and find the space ample.my car cost 18k in 1992 new, and i paid 15k,sounds like a lot of fun over 17 years for very little depreciation dont you think

Hi Ken,I think its a touch harsh to say AlanB antagonised the forum, he's obviously an newbie, and was asking a genuine question.

Kin, I believe Ken was referring to the 5 original posts by Alan, all with the same text, but in 5 separate forums....
Sorry Ken, I apologise oops
Must be due to my recent lack of attendence to this superb forum. I didn't realise he duplicated his posts 5 times hide

There is no 'right' or 'wrong' Morgan.
Same as there's no right or wrong any make/model of car, stereo, camera, anything really.
You have to decide what you want the car for...
Nearly 35 years with various models from Land Rover, the vehicle has changed to suit my useage...
Starting in the mid 70s with a '66 Serias IIa swb, to a 109 station wagon (which someone had dropped a V8 into), to a Range Rover for some 15+ years. That gave way to a 127" because of the ever increasing weight of recovery kit. When I stopped the rally recovery I had a Disco for a while (mistake, never really got on with it) and now have a 90 - don't carry large/heavy objects much, but have a trailer for when I do. The 90 is great for winter, if a trifle cold/draughty on motorways, and good for parking up on events where a mobile radio control is required.

So, what do you want to do with your Morgan? Drive it, I hope! wink But what sort of driving? The occasional potter around back country lanes, or long holiday treks across Europe? Commute to work? An all-year round drive?

Things we can't answer for you - but when we know those answers, might be able to point you in the right direction.
Having said that, while you're looking at Morgans - get to drive as many variations as you can - it might help answer some of those questions rofl

Cheers,

Graham (G4FUJ)

This hits the nail on the head. On B roads, where the cars excel, it's the road surface that limits speed and not the size of the engine. Given the price difference between the Plus 4 and the Roadster, it's difficult to see what extra benefit you get for your £££. The 4/4 Sport feels slow compared to a Plus 4, but not everyone wants speed. The downside of the Sport is that it comes with a traditional hood, which is a pain when there is no warning of a very localised thunderstorm.

The Plus 8 certainly sounds good but I gather the steering is hard work when parking. As they share the same engine, having owned several Range Rovers, I'd also be wary about cylinder head/overheating problems which affected the P38 model.

Alan,

let me come back to your initial question.... smile

I'm no expert, but I think, that, if you buy a pre-owned / pre-loved Morgan, no matter what model, you will lose no money.

You will probably lose no money with a brand new 4/4 or a +4 if you keep it longer than, let's say, 8 years.

Despite the price and the sound wink , I went for a new Roadster. I'm very happy with it, and as I intend to keep it forever, depreciation was no subject for me.

Good luck,
Ivo

I totally agree, and with a deeper shade of yellow - oooooooooo! love

When looking for an investment, colour is also important. As my recently departed great friend and classic car collector Harry Rea once said to me. "The day you buy it is the day you sell it". - think about that also before you buy. idea

I'll follow the recent Librands ad about a new Trad suspension system with interest - that may well stir things up a bit as to options.

For me, and based on the goat tracks round our way, a +4 felt the best balance at the time (and especially when I fill up and pay the tax), but I may start eyeing up a late +8 depending on reviews on the upgrade...

Whatever you buy, it will be the best option at some times, and not others.

As Graham has said, concentrate on what is important for you. But once you know what your perfect car would be, change your budget if you have to, rather than your choice to fit your budget.

Totally agree with that statement. But I personally prefer driving a car that I really like (even if I get less money for it in the end), than driving a car with a good resale value, that I don't like.

For example, my daily driver is a yellow Fiat Stilo. With the argument above, I would be driving a silver Golf.

Sunny greetings from sunny Luxembourg,
Ivo
