£40k for a specced up 4/4, £50k for a +4. Are we not losing sight of the affordable sports car idea of a Morgan.
Isn't some of the 'charm' and appeal of the cars their archaic, vintage construction and lack of technology. If you want a great handling british sport car get a Lotus. If you want the best, sensible priced convertible sports car get a Boxster.
I appreciate that there's a lot of tweaking that can be done, and is done, but the cars were probably out of date 80 years ago!!

Yes I think we are, and I fear that the list price will continue to rise until they no longer sell easily.
It's been a very effective sales strategy so far. And a basic no frills car with four painted wheels and PVC hood could be argued as a reasonably priced car.
But the menu driven extras to tempt the non sporting owner works very well. The cost of mohair over PVC should be limited to extra cost of the material, plus any extra time to make the hood up over PVC, but it's a huge premium. As are stainless wires and so on.
In 2005, my Roadster cost around £42,000 new with stainless wires and Mohair pack. That's bad enough but ten years on we're looking at £57,000, admittedly with a different engine. That's a huge increase when inflation has been so low for so long.

+1 - that's my take on it. The suspension on my Morgan beats the caterham I had for comfort. I like the fact that you have to drive within the limits of the car not the driver.

If trad Morgan's got too too updated it won't be long before they are compared to modern sports cars by the media where I doubt the conclusion would make good reading.

I think you have to get trad Morgan cars before you get into one. That is a vintage car made fun to drive, reliable and able to be used at will in modern driving conditions.

But I'm also up for personal mods as thats part of the owners choice and makes for more individual cars.

I seem to remember that 60's road tests of the +8 when it was new, were less than complimentary about it's brakes/handling/steering etc, and cars were pretty basic back then.
Add nearly 50 years of motor car development to any modern testers opinion and and it will just get totally slated.
Morgans are what they are, an odd ball throwback to days gone by. They're a manufacturer who should have gone the way of all other British car manufacturers, but they didn't. Not because of their cutting edge technology and state of the art manufacturing…… in spite of it!!!!!
They're bought by nostalgia freaks and dreamers; middle aged, middle England, middle class.
I hope the rash of new owners buying the AR+4 aren't too disappointed with leaks, rattles and build faults.
It will never be a Boxster/MX5/ Elise.

The relatively simple construction of the Trads has something to do with its longevity a bit like a proper landy.

Over complicate things and cars become to expensive to keep on the road long term.

Think of any modern car that relies on electronics it it's suspension and driving adaptability and think ££££s in repairs.

At least what Morgan are doing with the suspension is basic to maintain.

To all who addressed the original question asked many many thanks. I wondered what it would take to swop my low leaf spring (on my side carrying 16 stone driver ) over to my passenger high side (carrying 8 stone). Then at least when I get in the car it would looks and ride level. I am told that the springs can be swopped over and are interchangeable but its a big job. Also I am not sure what would be needed in terms of workshop equipmeny. (ie axle stands, jacks etc). Does anybody have a view or a source that describes a leaf spring change process bearing in mind that both springs would have to be off at the same time to facilitate the swop so the good/high spring is under the heavy b*****d (moi). Alternatively a good mechanic in the Oxford area that could do it for me.

Don't agree I'm afraid , I would buy one if there were a few more made , character in buckets , and as far as Boxster and Mx5 is concerned - massive yawn ! love the Elise though , great British sports car , not as characterful as a Mog though !

I drove two Elises in 2013 when they were the apple of my eye. in fact we had a TM trip to Hethel which was a grand day out. But those two test drives left me a bit non plussed. I desperately wanted one, but that wasn't quite enough.
