Yes, it would be lovely to have 2 screen catches to undo, and to flip the lid back, one-handed.
Not having that once-in a blue moon convenience doesn't outweigh all the good bits in the car.

I often have the hood up on my Plus8 - trad type- as it is used in all weathers. I have an everflex stud hood. I am experimenting with seam sealer to cure drips from seams etc.
For the new Aero 8, being a a £100k car ( how many will actually see life at £80k?) the hood appears to be a let down. Also the boot hinges...need sorting.
A Targa top would be nice.....semi hardtop style allowing open top driving.
People criticised the S1 aero when it came out for the "cross-eyed" look.
It didn't worry me as I am a Citroen fan...remember their features?
No doubt the cars will sell in the limited volume expected so Morgan targets will be met. As Morgan converts we have our views on keeping to tradition versus modernisation/evolution but Morgans must evolve both from legislature and customer needs so the idea of the car is good. I hope the owners get genuine pleasure from owning them and there aren't bugs or issues to come out of the woodwork( not literally by the way!). If the car IS a new one as the blurb says then on past history there may be some?
I hope not.

Hi, folks. Had a double take when I saw this thread as this is my car! Still, it got me to finally sign up on the forum. Mileage is actually 3835. It's being sold as I have an Aero8 on order and only have garage room for two (I also have a Brooklands M3W which I have driven more than the Plus8 over the last year). To answer a couple of questions. Yes, changing the steering wheel means you lose both airbags. And Frank's post made me smile - I used to own a R100 and loved the colour scheme. This is actually several shades darker - I asked the factory via Phil to do me 'Metallic Connaught' and this was what they came up with. I think it works well. The seats are actually very comfortable, so long as you are not too broad in the backside...... . Hope it goes to a good home!

I am a potential Aero 8 buyer……..but. The hood would bug the hell out of me.
If I'm paying that amount of money I want a hood that 'works'.

It is allegedly watertight, a first for Morgan after over a hundred years of development.
I don't accept the excuse 'we can't afford the development costs', if you've got the nerve to build a car that you want sell for £100k make it fit for purpose. While you're at it, put seats in that recline/adjust.
'It's a Morgan' just doesn't work when you're up against V8 vantages/911/R8 opposition.

Hugh.

Welcome - you sounded just like I did for the first five years. It wears you down and gets to you eventually. Not meant rudely, just that its a bug that gets so far under your skin that it can't be itched eventually.

They drive you mad, now lets see is that the (ever patient and loving) wife or the car. Hmmm maybe both.

None of them are water tight.

I've had Morgans for 10 years, off and on.

I can, by applying man logic, forgive all of the many failings of the trad.
In the scheme of things they can still be fairly affordable, as long as you don't go too mad and buy a brand new one and spec it up.

They are (IMHO) pushing the boundaries of cost versus reality. Fortunately for MMC there are still enough of us with the itch to buy them.

I'm not sure though if there is an endless stream of Morgan obsessives who will stump up £100k and put up with its 'idiosyncrasies' (faults) when faced with the other choices.
I hope there are, for MMC's sake.

That plus 8 is just the car for me , the right colour , manual , low mileage , seems a bit of a bargain really ! It was very difficult to walk past the plus 8 in front of the reception on sat without wanting that black one ! I'm sure it will go very quickly , lets see say £30k for mine leaves around £44k to find ....(I can cope with the hood issues ! )

Agreed - look at the price/position the Aero Coupe/Supersport had and how many sold. As you say the price of the Trad may look high but the labour and authenticity of the car cannot be questioned. They are clearly trying to mange a high cost base and low volume yet remain relevant. It may be a small queue but they do well to service it. Leaks and all.

Super car Chris, great spec. Like you we find the Tillett seats very comfortable and we've done 650 miles in a day in them without problems. MMC made an extra base cushion for my wife which she finds comfortable and also enables her to see out of the windscreen as the Tillets sit fairly low! Good job they do as my hood is also very low...

AeroMax wheels are my favourite modern Morgan wheels and are both lighter and stronger than many of the other alternatives, diplomatically mentioning no particular models. 😉 My car has the ugly modern wheel with air bags, but I don't want to forfeit the airbags for a better looking Motolita wheel.

At the price and the spec it looks a very good buy for someone and as you say Chris, I'm sure it will quickly find a good home. flag flag
