I agree Peter. Shame that there seems to be a fight over the name....I understood that the engines were being made again and not by Krazy Horse.

I contacted JAP the other week and the answer made me believe they were cooperating with Crazy Horse.
I crave those valve covers! *s*

My grandmother's old boyfriend, John Alfred Prestwich, is probably turning in his grave. JAP on an American motor, what next! I'm with you on this one Peter; I don't understand the desire to pretend that it is a JAP engine?

It's just a cover. It's all about the looks. I don't see a problem. Personally, I wouldn't do it, because I dislike logos in general. But even without the "jap" name, it makes the engine look old, and I see no problem with that.

As a cover on the entire cylinder head , I wonder about its effect on heat build up , and will the urban cooling system still fit ?
Putting a cover on an air cooled engine might not be the best thing to do - this must have been considered ?

I don't think the cover will cause troubles as the original S&S top has no cooling finns either. I would not put any fake logo on something but that's my personal preferrence. It does look nice but for me it would look better with a red S&S logo.

My qualm is that you are paying to incorrectly label the S&S engine as a JAP engine. Just because the classics used such an engine at one point? The same reason I don't put fake stick on plastic air vents from pep boys on my daily driver.

I bet that it would cool better than the original crome one.
