Took the car out after a two week lull. The screen was a bit dirty and I flicked the wash wipe switch.
The wipers went to 12 o'clock and resolutely stayed there.
No response from the wipers or washer, irrespective of the position of the ignition switch
The indicated wiper fuses appeared intact.
Any suggestions as to what to do please?
All polite suggestions gratefully received.

Hmm, sounds exactly like a blown fuse to me, I suspect the grease in the wiper rack had solidified up a bit and caused the wiper motor to draw too much current - although having said that I've just spotted you're in Australia, so I don't think cold grease is going to be an issue!
MMC are renowned for not matching up the fuses with the way they are described on the fuse box, if it were me I'd pull every fuse and check it, regardless of what the labels said.

Plus, and to reinforce what Tim has just said, I 'lost' the indicators on my 08 +4, all fuses under the dash were fine but I found that one of the fuses in the small plastic holder on the bulkhead under the bonnet had blown, it appeared to supply 'some' of the buzz bar in the main fuse board. I know yours is a later car and I am guessing it has the electrical box under the bonnet above the knees but it might also have a line fuse or fuses elsewhere?

I've just had to replace the demister fuse on my Roadster.
For the record on a 2005 it's fuse number six under the dash and is 15A.

I agree, I wouldn't trust the MMC fuse identification... mine was exactly opposite the labelling! Should be fairly easy to see if any 'juice' is getting up to the switch and go from there. Usually washers and wipers are protected on same circuit/fuse.

I've just had a problem with my wipers and it turned out to be the connection of the multipin plug on the back of the wiper motor. Can you hear the relays operating when you work the switch?

When I bought my car the first thing Peter Constable showed me was the plug for the wipers. He said if the wipers stop push this plug together.
