I am trying to figure out the wiring to my cigar lighter. The Sat Nav/ Phone chargers do not seem to work in it. There is only a single red feed to the unit but there is a second connector (not attached) with a black and a mauve wire. Should this be connected to the lighter as well as there are a couple of unused spades on the lighter? The wiring diagram I downloaded from Gomog seems to show 3 wires at the lighter but does not identify colours.

Anybody know what it should look like?
Andy

Hi Andy
Most cigar lighters are mounted in a plastic dash and will need an earth wire attached to make them work. They may also have a light fitted so that they can be seen in the dark and a wire will have to be connected to lighting system. Best way is to an instrument illumination bulb.
I hope this helps.
David.

Last week i installed for same reasons( GPS)a cigarette lighter on my 4/4 78...i did buy the housing at an auto parts shop and installed this beneath the dasch. aside from the heat compartement using a piece of aluminium sheet, using ground wire from the heater housing where i attached the alluminium sheet with parker screws and using a positive + wire attached to a heavy brown wire wich got a fuse on it, so it is now protected by this fuse...check out wich way the current flows so you do attache the wire at the right place...i do not have a elctrical sheme but it works just fine for me now...
re copy/ sattnav connection does not work: i do have this same problem on my lotus and on the morgan cigarette connection, it works just fine by using the foldable extention kit to plug in, on this extention plug there is even a small green light that indicates the working or not working mode...(garmin) it must be the original male plug that does not work on every cigarette lighter housing.

I can email you a copy of the wiring colour scheme from: BS AU7a 1983 in .pdf format if that's of any use?

It's a small file of 30kB or so...

Cheers,

Thanks for the response. I had resolved the problem by making up the connections as I thought and all works correctly. Somebody (no names no pack drill)must have forgotten to reconnect following fitting of a map light oops
