I am harbouring dreams of doing a round Australia trip in my 1975 Plus 8 (new engine soon to be installed).
So, it would be nice to tow a motorcycle trailer ( the tiny ones which are towed by bikes) so that I can pack a tent and assorted camping gear and beer.
Has anyone done this sort of modification? Any suggestions and advice?
Wow what a trip, thought that was a great thing to do, then I saw you're in Australia! Still a brilliant idea, and clever to have a trailer on the back, I'm sure sure some of our cousins down under will have contacts for this type of thing. Do you have a Harley dealership nearby, may they could help?
I have a tow bar on my 1978 +8.Its made of basic angle iron bolted to the chassis rails It was there when I bought the car. I think it was a factory part in the days before type approval.
.+8 Now gone for a 1800 4/4. Duratec in bright yellow.
I looked at doing this to mount a bike carrier on the back of my 2011 +4. I had a look around and spoke to my insurer Gott Wynne and was told that although it was physically possible it was not legally (EU conformance stuff). I think however with your age of car it shouldn't be a problem.
What I managed to do was get a bracket attached to the main chassis rails (Williams) and then made a special rack to mount the bike rack.
