These things happen...!

We endured an 18 month refurbishment of the house from mid 2011 to the end of 2012, the builders took over the garage as their too shed and materials store. I got "Aldermog" not long after they moved out...

The building work and re-decoration took the house and all facilities from the early 1980s to as modern as we could manage. Yes was stressful and messy, the result was really good and the house is now as we want it. I will not move again, other than to a very small plot next to the Church.

Keep in touch, I enjoy your "Letters from France", and by the time your garage is returned the E3w should be nicely developed, ideal for a French city!

As a disruptive suggestion, the Aero 8 will be, based on my experience of the Plus 8 Auto and a couple of drives in the Aero 8 demonstration cars, just as much an every day car as the SLK and with a far, far better ride. Our SLK 300 with 18" wheels rode, shall we say, firmly...and the boot was, hood down, useless.

Good luck with the building work Giles, hope to here that you return to a Morgan soon. I had to do something similar about 12 years ago and just had a tin top for 7 years, it is hard but it's really lovely when you get back in a sports car. cheers

I had a call from Morgan France today.

They have sold my 4/4 - it took them 1 week & it went for €40K - not bad as I paid €43K for it new. OK, I'm paying them some commission, but the new owner will be getting the car with a warranty from them, and I haven't had to waste a load of time with tyre kickers.

A friend of mine who has a +4 bought all my Morgan luggage and the storm cover from me on Sunday.

So all in all disposing of the car has proved to be as easy and hassle free as were the 5 years of ownership.

A fantastic result Giles. I hope you don't regret the decision too much.

It is strange that the relationship we have with cars and bikes is often very strong. If you really love that piece of machinery it can be very hard to let it go, whatever the "good" reason may be.

I would bet that no other recently built car (5 years ago) could reach such a little depreciation, even if the detoriation of € value in the meantime is counted in. I would also suppose, that the depreciation of a 4/4 is the mildest within the Morgan type family. Good deal done, Giles, hopefully you will come back with some MMC product in the near future.

You make a fair point about the exchange rate Heinz. Thanks to the shift in exchange rates a brand new 4/4 in France is now €53 400 before extras.

Which makes a 5 year old one at €40K seem like good value, n'est ce pas ?

p.s. You have a point there about future Morgan buying Richard laugh2

In the meantime, it might also be a good lever for persuading swmbo that I might be allowed a motorbike again now that the offspring are both off the payroll.....
