Can I suggest a titanium case and artificial sapphire crystal. I have a Tissot with these. I have worn it every day for twenty years and while I am doing all DIY/car work, and there is barely a mark or scratch on the case and the crystal is pristine.

Good point about titanium and Tissot are a quality manufacturer with heritage

I'm with you Kevfitz. I don't think you can beat a black bezel stainless Rolex Sub. Had mine 25 years. Only change I have made is replacing the strap with a "Rubber-B" band.

I have a black face Tag Heuer Carrera, a simple Calibre 5 movement, stainless steel case and bracelet, nothing fancy. It's got a nice crystal back so you can admire the workings, and it keeps good time, gaining a couple of minutes every 3 months or so.
I like it because it's a mechanical watch but didn't cost the Earth (about £1000 when I bought it). I've had it 12 years now, it's never off my wrist except when I take a bath, and it's gradually acquiring a nice patina of scratches and scuffs.

I had a look today in a Tag Jewelers but they all looked very fussy

I have an original vixa type 20 - but I would not use it every day! I have a liking for the omega dynamic chrono - which I would use every day.

Good evening Stewart, what about a robust diver model from Zeno watches from Basel/Switzerland? http://www.zeno-watch.ch/product/diver-look-3/Not that expensive (between 400 and 500 GBP), reliable and a good piece of stainless steel with automatic ETA mouvement. OK, it´s neither a Rolex nor an Omega but as a "daily driver" I can recommand them. I have 3 of them including the diver and my girlfriend uses 2 ot them also including the diver. But there could also be some other models in the Zeno collection that could meet your requirements. Kind regards, George P.S.: Usual disclaimer... just a happy customer....
