Try a squirt of silicon spray and gentle rocking of the steering wheel. If the steering lock hasn't engaged it sometimes works to make it engage and then with no tension on the steering wheel, manipulate the key gently in the lock and it should come out.

Another thing you can try is to jack the front of the car up so that the front wheels are in the air. This will take any load off, making it a great deal easier to rock the steering wheel back and forth.

Real sports cars didn't have steering wheel locks in '65. There is a car-thief-friendly mechanism that allows you to replace the lock tumbler with another one:

If the key won't come out, disconnect the battery and then crawl under the dash board with a nail and flashlight to remove the tumbler. A new tumbler and key is $16 plus postage.

Didn't think that there was a steering lock on the 1966 +4 ??? There isn't one on mine anyway!

If it's seriously stuck then it should be possible to remove the switch from the dashboard and work on it on the bench (the barrel should remove easily)

Just one thought, when the switch is turned fully anti clockwise (in the aux position) the key won't come out. Have you tried to take the key out in each position of the switch?

(Looks as if my post was too late......)

I wondered about the steering wheel lock. Thought I was going to learn about a new option hadn't heard of.
