Don't want to start a political debate, I know there are a great variety of opinions on this forum.
I'm asking if you can to sign the following petition. Lots of jobs and communities are at risk and surely in the UK we need our own steel industry if only from the security issues.

As has been said, a petition is pointless.

When the same thing happened in France the steel works closed.
If the French Unions couldn't force the French Government to act there is zero chance of Cameron's lot doing anything.

The ONLY possible route would be for the Government to Nationalise the Business and eat the losses....subsidising it be another means, which is allowed by the EU.

Petitions are useful, at the very least, for raising awareness of an issue. When I was at sea, we were always told that if a collision was inevitable - do something; doing anything was always better than doing nothing.

To stand up for something you believe is right is Never pointless.

To stand idly by and watch something you think is wrong and let it continue without at least pointing it out demeans the watcher

You will for certain never change a single thing if don't at least try, but if enough try together, it's amazing what you can change.

It's losing £1m a day so it cannot continue like this for long. Remember Rover: bmw gave it away and subsidised the loses for a while and I suspect Tata will do something similar. It's long term future will depend on the new owners, but I don't have a good feeling for the long term future of the employee's.

There is only one petition worth signing and that is on 23rd June, vote leave. As the world's 5th largest economy the UK must have a steel industry both for commercial and defence reasons. It is about time governments of this country were allowed/forced to look after it's own electorate.

I'd happily sign a petition to call upon the Givernment to act to retain steel making capability in the UK , if necessary by falling foul of the EU, but re nationalisation is not the answer. Public ownership and management of public services is one thing, but Givernment ownership and management of commercial enterprise simply doesn't work.

I have signed the petition. By doing so I hope to add to the campaign for saving Tata UK plants. The petition itself is more symbolic than influential but I don't want to sit back and do nothing.
I was a metallurgist in the steel industry in the 70's when there was massive rationalisation due to falling demand and monopoly situations. The private company I worked for were "victims". The order book we had was what was the real prize at stake for the selected few survivors.
Politicians will jaw-jaw about the effects of closure and give out " reasons" they are tied to. The EU needs to get off it's a**e and actually ACT imeediately. China dumping steel due to its recent massive expansion now causing over capacity must be restrained as it is affecting the worldwide industry. They are depressing the market price for steel that is causing losses elsewhere.
South Wales is extremely vulnerable due to the decimation of heavy industry, coal and steel mainly. There are hotspots of severe unemployment etc years after pit closures in particular.government pours money into retraining etc but this is only cosmetic and short term. The lost jobs rarely get replaced.
My own town area has lost thousands of jobs and I know of many who have gone to poorly paid jobs or even not worked since finishing the "training" that was set up. The training companies made money.........
