I can't sign because I'm an American but I support your effort. I wish we had something similar here. The USA has deindustrialized even more than Europe, and this is is destroying the blue collar middle class more than any other single cause.

As my client who builds solar panel farms is forced to buy his panels from 3 German factories at twice the going world price because of EU "free trade" rules, I don't see why why the British government can't insist that Volkswagon, Merc and BMW should buy steel from British steel works at twice the going world price........?

Interesting that the US imposes a 236% tariff on Chinese steel imports whilst the EU haven't yet made their mind up but currently impose a massive 9%.

Of course. The EU - as it currently stands - exists to facilitate German exports not just within the EU but globally using the subterfuge of a Euro exchange rate that is much lower than an equivalent sovereign German currency.

All the time Germany holds the EU reins, it will tolerate cheap steel imports for its carmakers and won't rock the trade tariff boat with export markets like China.

It's the reason I want out of the EU. The single currency and 'ever closer union' are Germany's attempt to achieve through economic means what it was unable to gain through previous military efforts. I have admiration for how Germany has brought this about - but want a UK Government that puts UK citizens first.

Since the 1970s UK manufacturing had both progressively declined and sadly much has been sold to foreign owned companies, with decisions being made in boardrooms thousands of miles away.
I am aware of the market forces and the economic reality behind this, but sadly very little thought seems to have been given to the many communities destroyed by these actions.
Even if this petition proves to be futile, I will be signing. It is my small way of showing support to the families who are going to be affected

There...clear illegal and incompetent actions resulting in a massive bale out.
The UK government has made strong comments that we have made better decisions re recovery from the crash by taking a different route to the EU so the same attitude needs to be taken again.
Why not deal with steel in a comparative way?

Get out of EU so we can make our own decisions about our own people. The EU is too cumbersome and full of self centred countries leeching off others. Strong sentiments but they reflect the reality.

I know the UK has been courting China for trade but surely action has to be taken when China craps on us?
