We germans will leave Köln/Cologne for a 400 km drive saturday morning, so where will be a good meeting point for 13 or 14 (1 or 2 pm) o'clock? What is the agenda for saturday? And the most important question: Where will you have lunch?
Achim
Gruss, Achim!
There is no fixed plan, but I suggest the following;
We all aim to meet at midday at
the aeroclub in St Omer. They are aware we are coming, but I haven't visited before and don't speak French. There's a little cafe there so I guess we will all get a light lunch or coffee and wait for everyone to arrive. I don't think we will leave before 2pm, maybe 3pm. I am going to bring a cameraman friend of mine who will get some video, if everyone is happy with that. It's rare to get so many three wheelers together.
From there we will drive c.1 hour to the crash site in Annoullin. People can take their own route, or we can drive in formation. I am thinking a cross country route that goes St Omer - Hazebrouck - Merville - Estaires - D947 - La Bassee - Hautay - Bauvin - Annoeullin. I am not a navigator or tour guide, I, too, am along for the ride. I will probably keep the sun at my back and drive in roughly the right direction on roads I like the look of.
The actual crash site is very hard to find if you don't know what to look for. The precise spot is
here, I have been there before. I suggest folks save this in their phone or whatever. The spot is marked by this stone;

I open to suggestions regarding how we remember Captain Ball. I was thinking we should simply lay some flowers at the stone. We could also visit the cemetery where he is buried which is nearby,
here. From there I suggest we drive back to St Omer, meet in the Hotel bar at c.7pm, enjoy a beer and find somewhere to eat. On Sunday morning I will head back to England with a smile.
Feel free to message me with your mobile number (ich sprache gern
Deutsche) in case you are running late.
I hope folks are happy with this. I am really looking forward to it. We have (I think) Brits, Germans, French and Belgians along. It will be great to get such a group together.
