The amount of times I have had HGVs sit so close to my smart Roadster that I could not see the number plate on the move is beyond belief, these are the same guys who publicly have campaigns on TV to educate car drivers not to pull in so close to HGV's when they pass as they have a heavy load and won't be able to brake quickly enough, so the car should leave a big gap before pulling in front of the HGV.
Pity the inconsiderate drivers can't follow their own advice!

I'm sure there are lots of really good and considerate large goods vehicle drivers out there. What surprises me is the large number you see tailgating cars (often smallish cars driven by lone women or elderly people), using mobile phones (including texting), and running into the back of stationary queues of traffic often with tragic consequences.

I hate tail gating , I have flicked the s/wheel to the right and back to left instantly , the rear twitches and the tail gating idiot backs away instantly . They don,t even overtake and keep a long gap . I once showed my solicitor how its done and he said " I would not tail gate you if you did that in front of me " .

No indicators on my Morgan. I do make hand signals, but I wonder how many motorists actually understand them. The "I am turning left" one is not particularly obvious.
Very few at a guess. I'm not sure that its even in the highway code any longer.

I notice no stop hand signal is given. I was taught to us my hand flat and with the arm bent at the elbow and the fingers pointing up. That was also given as the left turn signal. I have since found out that this was a military system of hand signals. It also ties in with the old mechanical hand that was once attached on a pivoting arm attached to truck doors. Credit Wikipedia

I think they were actually taught to tailgate when I lived in Switzerland, unless you were above the speed limit they sat on your bumper, washing the screen helps, and running a bit close to the verge is quite effective especially when it is a bit dirty, they hate getting dirt on their polished company tin box.

Running through puddles often works too although it is interesting that it has no effect on some drivers. I wonder whether it would backfire if there was an incident. I know never to do it when alongside a pavement but I have done it on the open road. A bit schoolboyish I guess.
