I'm also pondering the same thing. The last time I did it non-stop from Nottingham to Arras in the pouring rain, not sure I want to repeat that.

Regarding the Hotel, I have never been there but it's central to where we're going. I'm sure there'll be good food and drink to be found somewhere in town.

So - we've booked into the Premier Inn close by Ashford (Friday 6th May), ready for the short trip to the Eurotunnel train early on the Saturday morning.

Ashford (Eureka Leisure Park)
Eureka Leisures Park, Rutherford Road, Ashford, Kent, TN25 4BNTel. 0871 527 8028 Fax. 0871 527 8029

It's only £46 (Breakfast is additional) and we're expecting to get there around 8.30 pm there's a few places to eat on Friday night and it's a good meet venue if anyone's interested.

It'll break up the journey nicely if you're travelling a distance.

Rgds Mark

We germans will leave Köln/Cologne for a 400 km drive saturday morning, so where will be a good meeting point for 13 or 14 (1 or 2 pm) o'clock? What is the agenda for saturday? And the most important question: Where will you have lunch?

Gruss, Achim!

There is no fixed plan, but I suggest the following;

We all aim to meet at midday at the aeroclub in St Omer. They are aware we are coming, but I haven't visited before and don't speak French. There's a little cafe there so I guess we will all get a light lunch or coffee and wait for everyone to arrive. I don't think we will leave before 2pm, maybe 3pm. I am going to bring a cameraman friend of mine who will get some video, if everyone is happy with that. It's rare to get so many three wheelers together.

From there we will drive c.1 hour to the crash site in Annoullin. People can take their own route, or we can drive in formation. I am thinking a cross country route that goes St Omer - Hazebrouck - Merville - Estaires - D947 - La Bassee - Hautay - Bauvin - Annoeullin. I am not a navigator or tour guide, I, too, am along for the ride. I will probably keep the sun at my back and drive in roughly the right direction on roads I like the look of.

The actual crash site is very hard to find if you don't know what to look for. The precise spot is here, I have been there before. I suggest folks save this in their phone or whatever. The spot is marked by this stone;

I open to suggestions regarding how we remember Captain Ball. I was thinking we should simply lay some flowers at the stone. We could also visit the cemetery where he is buried which is nearby, here.

From there I suggest we drive back to St Omer, meet in the Hotel bar at c.7pm, enjoy a beer and find somewhere to eat. On Sunday morning I will head back to England with a smile.

Feel free to message me with your mobile number (ich sprache gern
Deutsche) in case you are running late.

I hope folks are happy with this. I am really looking forward to it. We have (I think) Brits, Germans, French and Belgians along. It will be great to get such a group together.

smile

Nice plan 'Baldric' sounds perfect - & you're all welcome to join us Friday evening at the dead posh Ashford Nandos, or Frankie n Benny's (Eureka), for a Squadron pre-flight meal & shin-dig. Anyone else stopping overnight at the 'luxurious' Premier Inn? 😉🍻
I've had a talk with the Royal British Legion who have a wreath ready for us to lay at one of the memorials - I'll bring that & cover the Exhortation if you guys are happy with that being ex RN FAA & current member of the Royal British Legion Riders Branch - MotorPunk has already said that he's bringing some flowers for one of the memorials too.

I'm also carrying x4 small Motorola TLKR T50, walkie talkie radios with which hopefully we can spread out among the group & use to keep the group together. They'll clip to the seatbelt in situe and have VOX so nice and simple (Even I can manage them).

Really looking fwd to this now - MOT tomorrow👍
European travel insurance through Gott n Wynne £20 - Sorted😉
Euros 💶 Sorted😊
Navigator - Sorted🙄 'Phone & Garmin' not Het - she's the flight attendant 🛫
