Yes, there are position restrictions. For sure it has to be above the main brake lights but I'm not sure of the amount. It also has to be on the centre line of the vehicle. It's not an item that is checked at the MOT in the UK. Cheers John
I need to correct what I said in my previous post. It seems that if fitted and wired then the light should work. The manual states: "Additional stop lamps fitted and connected must be tested. Where extra lamps are fitted and there is doubt as to whether they are connected, the benefit of this doubt should be given to the presenter."
The brake should be positioned to the centre line of the vehicle when possible. If, due toany obstruction or vehicle design, this is not possible, it should be positioned to the off side i.e.Driver’s side, of the centre line.
The height should be no less than 13.75” (350mm) and no more than 59” (1500mm) from the ground or if the structure of the vehicle makes this impracticable 82.5” (2100mm).
