Checked our cars last night and it shows an advisory we knew nothing about for my wife's car, apparently it had a fail last year for a rear indicator of the wrong colour and then a pass issued at the same time? May have been a typo from the garage but as I was there nothing was said and paperwork given us does not mention it?

Interesting...some weird information on the advisories back in 2013/2014.
Car has self levelling HID lights.
Advisory: headlamps adjusted using drivers adjuster to allow satisfactory result. There is no adjuster!!!!

Just looked up my last car in the UK (Saab 9-5) - it appears to be seriously unloved now...lots of advisories and seems to fail each year on easy to identify items....sad.

Mine had advisories two years running.....panels covering the chassis prevented full inspection. I'm assuming they meant the floor panels!

While one should never ignore advisories, especially if they are on a car you are thinking about buying, their presence is distorted by two factors. VOSA expect a number of advisories, so all testers will give a few to make sure the returns from the testing station do not invite a VOSA inspection. Secondly, the advisories often show up the testers lack of knowledge of old car systems - one of the reasons for the MOT exemption for pre 1960 vehicles.
