Given that I am reasonably happy with the Alpine system if I had to replace it today I think I would fit this unit. Alpine CDE-196DAB - CD/DAB Receiver with Advanced Bluetooth The reasons are that it is IR remote ready and has a front USB port that I can use with my memory sticks loaded with MP3s. (there is another model but the USB port is strangely at the rear) You can download the manual here. This is the same remote that I am using.

Looks like it is the same family as my CDE 136 BT, the remote is the same.
As you say, a good device.

Been to busy enjoying driving the Mog to bother with the radio until yesterday. As you know it is difficult to reach and impossible to operate whilst moving, so a remote control is essential. I have a Pioneer DEH-X6500dab a good radio but you've guessed it, no remote control available. Looks like I will have to bite the bullet and buy a radio with a remote unless anyone on here has another idea. I was wondering whether there was a set of car steering wheel radio switches available as an unit that I could fit, I know pioneer make small looms for this purpose.
Anyone want to buy a radio???
Peter You are wrong they are available from Ebay and Halfords.

If I understand correctly the wiring is available to adapt to the steering wheel controls on a number of cars but for the Morgan you need an infrared remote control. As far as I can see Pioneer no longer supports this option.

Peter You are wrong they are available from Ebay and Halfords. Well I phoned Pioneer tech dept and they told me that infra red remote control was not available for this model. If there was steering controls on the Morgan then that would work. Any chance of posting where on ebay you have seen these. Peter

I have an Alpine model but to use a remote I need an IR unit that plugs in the back at a cost of £60 then a remote on top of that cost.
I am therefore going to look at buying either a remote ready unit or a Bluetooth model where your iPhone can control it. But then there are issues with using a phone when driving...

Mine has the IR unit plugged into the back and a little square receiver attached next to the radio at the front. Certainly if I was replacing it I would get a version with the IR receiver built in.
Given that we are all supposed to be moving to DAB I would not buy anything other than a DAB system. The UK is supposed to be switching off FM broadcast in the next 4 years.

My 2014 manufactured +4 came with an Alpine Radio CDE 181RM already fitted (remote ready) and it was only last weekend that I got the remote for it (an Alpine RUE 4202 for £21.99) and it works well. I guess the radio is located well back under the dash for security, but it does make it difficult to access and operate - but the remote makes it dead easy.

It was after that that they moved to models that could have a remote. First, like mine with an external receiver and later with the built in receiver.
