Mine has the IR unit plugged into the back and a little square receiver attached next to the radio at the front. Certainly if I was replacing it I would get a version with the IR receiver built in.
Given that we are all supposed to be moving to DAB I would not buy anything other than a DAB system. The UK is supposed to be switching off FM broadcast in the next 4 years. DAB works well in the Mog, but the "FM switch off" date is still years away. The Government keeps pushing it into the future. The last statement by the minister, made in 2015, was "not before 2020". Why the delay? People are not buying DAB radios, especially in cars, and there still are not DAB units to convert all models of car radio. I was talking to one dealer who said that until the Government requires all cars sold to nave a DAB and not FM radio it won't properly happen. Also, the transmitter coverage is still poor with big rural areas that have no coverage at all. I live on the fringe of 2 transmitter areas. In the front of the house the DAB radio picks up one transmitter, in the back another and there is half second time difference between the signals which is really irritating. So we stick with FM.

DAB is heavy on power usage (in relative terms) compared to "traditional" am and fm modes.
Why DAB radios are still so expensive (again in relative terms) is another question altogether...

My 2014 manufactured +4 came with an Alpine Radio CDE 181RM already fitted (remote ready) and it was only last weekend that I got the remote for it (an Alpine RUE 4202 for £21.99) and it works well. I guess the radio is located well back under the dash for security, but it does make it difficult to access and operate - but the remote makes it dead easy. Mine was fitted with the cheapy 171 model which needs the IR sensor plugged in - must be similar model to Peters as mentioned above. Put that down to the fuss I made with Morgan in 2012. It was after that that they moved to models that could have a remote. First, like mine with an external receiver and later with the built in receiver. Thanks Peter - I'll buy you a pint!

Been to busy enjoying driving the Mog to bother with the radio until yesterday. As you know it is difficult to reach and impossible to operate whilst moving, so a remote control is essential. I have a Pioneer DEH-X6500dab a good radio but you've guessed it, no remote control available. Looks like I will have to bite the bullet and buy a radio with a remote unless anyone on here has another idea. I was wondering whether there was a set of car steering wheel radio switches available as an unit that I could fit, I know pioneer make small looms for this purpose.
Anyone want to buy a radio???
Peter You are wrong they are available from Ebay and Halfords. Well I phoned Pioneer tech dept and they told me that infra red remote control was not available for this model. If there was steering controls on the Morgan then that would work. Any chance of posting where on ebay you have seen these. Peter Sorry can't find the Ebay one now but Amazon show one for Pioneer DEH X6500BT and Halfords list the radio with remote control but no longer available. Try Amazon not UK but USA. $14.95. It would seem that there is one

You may be right but it will require a significant increase in cell bandwidth if everyone start streaming mobile internet radio. On that subject may I recommend Swiss Jazz, Swiss Pop, and Swiss Classic. All available on the internet; hours of music, with no ads, and only occasional brief station announcements.

Cars are so close now I don't know why they don't go this route anyway.... This isn't Australia here........I'm lucky to get even a half decent phone signal half the time!

In reality Jay a vast area of Australia is not covered at all: but then in that vast area there are not that many people anyway. Even in some areas where quite a few tourist finish up there is no signal at all. That is why all the rental 4X4s in SA, WA and the Northern Territory have an EPIRB by law, so that people can call for help if they get stuck. Warnings that phone blackspots on the Oodnadatta Track will cost lives

Coverage will come...QANTAS are to roll out broadband on all domestic flights (Emirates is quick - QF said to be quicker)....
Google are working on this issue in Africa (with Facebook??)...

It was a tongue in cheek reference to Oz! But here in the UK the signal can be pretty crappy to non existent in places. I'm just south of Birmingham, my provider O2 very kindly upgraded me to 4G free of charge...I'm lucky to get a bar of bog standard signal! The impetus has gone out of the market here I think....unless you live around London of course!
