Hi
I have a 2009 Plus 4. I have found some paint cracks along the bottom of the running board. The cracks are found in the seam between the bottom lip before it starts to become a flat rolled shape. The cracks (about 50mm) are found on both sides and are back toward the rear wheel mudguards/fenders. (I would have loved to post an image but the website by limiting data size doesn't allow this).
There appears to be a very limited amount of bubbling near the cracks but this is aluminium so where has the corrosion come from? Also I am worried that by using a trolley lift on the chassis/cross member point in front of the rear wheels I have created some body distortion leading to cracks .... but surely not?
Is this occurrence unusual or have others experienced this? Also I don't want the whole panel respraying so any thoughts on a more localised paint solution.

If you are referring to the raised moulding....for the want of a better word....that runs along the lower edge of the wings, this is bonded to the wing. If you jacked up the car from one side rather than centrally, there is a possibility of the chassis twisting slightly. I'm not sure if it would stress that area of the wings sufficiently enough to crack the bonding slightly though.

I believe the beading is glued on the new type wings, There could be some separation taking place. If the paint is not metallic local spraying is straight forward.
.+8 Now gone for a 1800 4/4. Duratec in bright yellow.

(I would have loved to post an image but the website by limiting data size doesn't allow this) Photos taken with digital cameras, or even cell phones, tend to be quite high resolution, and therefore large files, these days. There are several ways in which you can reduce the size. 800 x 600 pixels is generally large enough for the forum. Any image editing software has the capability of reducing the image size and there are programs such as Fotosizer that can be used. If all else fails you can email the photo to yourself in a reduced size. Usually this function is available when you "right click" on the image and choose the send as an email attachment option. You usually then get some options about the size of the image to send. Good luck

Thanks Sorry to read about your problems. Odd that its symmetrical and on both sides. That makes one think that it might be the twist that has caused the cracking. The narrow back corner of the wing has a deep 90 deg return and is quite stiff adjacent to where it is fixed to the rear wing. I can see how there might be a stress concentration along the edge where you describe if the wing was significantly twisted. I would cross my fingers and hope that this is the cause because at least nothing more should develop . If it was mine I think I would pause for a while. I would thoroughly dry it out, seal the crack to make it water proof and monitor it very closely for a few months. If you repair it now and there is an on going reaction occurring it might be nugatory work. It would be really good to see the photo’s

In case you think these stress lines are due to a twisting motion on the chassis here are the preferred jacking points, I always use these when servicing etc prior to putting axle stands in place. http://www.gomog.com/allmorgan/jackpoints2.html

If it cracks in Paintwork it is a possibility the finish has filler behind it, Manufactures can use small amounts of filler in nasty little areas where Files can't reach.
Remerdy
Sand down area plus some, refill with a soft "Top Filler" , REPAINT but add Plastersizer to the paint, this will allow the Paint to stay slightly flexible and possibly prevent future cracking.
