The splines on the hub can be razor sharp. Don't touch them.
I would always apply a little copperslip when refitting the wheel.

If the front brakes have seized, freeing them will be easier by just driving the car back and forwards.....they will release with a bang! It sounds like harsh treatment but won't cause any damage.

I haven't been able to look at my car today - it will keep for the weekend.

As Jays said forward & back. But the near side ended up being dragged about 5 meters (locked solid) then a very determined drive forward. Big Bang then free but took some miles & heavy braking to stop the brake judder, due to the marking on the disc. Taking advice from this forum I now let the car stop on its own when pulling into the garage. I.e no application of the brakes. So far no re-occurrence.
I had had them stick a bit before but nothing like the last time. The car had been left a little longer than usual so maybe that compounded the issue.
Good luck & be carefull when " clouting" the wheel nut tool as it is easy to hit the wheel arch.

I have always been able to release a locked brake by just grasping the top of a wheel and rocking the car back and forth. However, I am sure that I am not alone in having to have the rear brake cylinders replaced. They have a habit of both leaking and sticking. Worth checking.

One of the by-products of not changing the brake fluid every two years, is that the hygroscopic nature of the stuff means water gets in the system and corrodes the actuation cylinder barrel. This can bring about sticking if left, too.

Condor, I trust this issue is soon resolved. Pulling the brakes off (if need be) is no big job but be sure the car is well supported on stands, chock he wheels and leave the jack well positioned for good order.
