A relation of mine who resides in France sent me this presentation of the Golden Age of Cyclecars.

He was slightly puzzled as to why the obvious candidates were referred to as Morgan and not Darmont. I am guessing that Martyn can enlighten us.

Sorry guys the file is 5.9 MB, so it exceeds the size limit by quite a margin. I will try to take out some of the slides to reduce it, unless someone can suggest an alternative, as I feel it would lose something as a truncated version.

The Darmont was a Morgan built under license to get around French build laws.

There are some really fascinating photos though I've only had a quick glance through it so far.

I think that is relatively well known. What interests me is that the 3 wheelers illustrated are all described as Morgans, and not Darmonts. I very much doubt they were all imports from UK, so why not use the "local" name?

I've never seen that much written about Darmonts, but I understand in the early years, they did pay royalties to Morgan, but didn't in the later years of production. Also, did you spot the fact the tax regime in France changed in 1924. My guess is that marked the name change of the vehicle, but I really do not know for sure.

The Bedelia is a hoot, and what is more, at least one still exists. Goodness knows what the designer was on when the passenger was placed ahead of the driver. I've seen one at a VSCC Prescott driven by a latter day Monsieur Bedelia where it failed to get up the hill, too much belt slip!

My friend Alain, in SW France, is an anglophile and Morganophile. He has a +4 and an MTW, both RHD and much modified - things like complete new bonnets, his own cooling system and revised front suspension on the MTW ... and more.

His little dog, who died earlier in the year, was called 'Darmont'.
