Is it true that you need to grease the pillars every 1000 miles?

You have to grease the kingpins every 1000 miles. It is even mentioned in the manual. I will do this tomorrow morning and will post some photos then. But I am sure there are already some photos of the greasing nipples of the kingpins in this forum, maybe someone can post a link. I cant because cut and paste does not work on my android tablet (or i cant figure it out how that works ;-))

I used Lucas RednTacky grease, found it much better than the common LM grease or poly based ones.

They should use the remote greasing kit which can be purchased from "the Nipple Company" ( this IS their real name!) Many of the dealers now stock it and will fit it too! I designed this kit and it means routine greasing can be done from within the engine compartment.

Before there is a cacophony of comment - you DO still need to get underneath every 6 months or so to check fasteners etc BUT it cuts down the fiddling about with grease nipples on the suspension and saves having to squirm about underneath when on tour!!

Cheers!

Although the manual says every 1k , I do mine about every 600 miles or thereabouts to be on the safe side.

Building on what Ronnie says about the greasing kit, I would like to add that to me the kit really prooves its worth when travelling. I just completed a trip to South of Germany (I live near Amsterdam) with my Roadster. Length of journey requires at least 1x greasing of kingpins (I grease kingpins at least every 1000 km). I had grease gun stowed behind drivers seat (wel wrapped in a plastic bag, and with plastic gloves from gasoline station) and aplied it once when in a parking garage in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Made sure to whipe off excess grease (you dont't want grease to get on front discs...) with paper towels I got from the Hotel. This was a 10 min job at the most.
I was very happy with this, as it saves one from the hassle to find a garage abroad, as well as that you are in control of the amount and quality of the grease put in.

In my first Morgan I had a similar kit, but that one was permanently and directly connected to a grease filled container with a spindle, every ~500 km, I just turned the spinle a few times. It also had a valve to stear the grease to the left or right kingpin.
Happy greasing!

Cheers,
Bert

The remote greasing kit mentioned by Robbie is good and as said above, is very useful when on a touring holiday.
Before I fitted the kit (it is quite easy to fit), we did a trip to the South of France meaning I had to get the greasing done halfway through the trip. Took the Mog to a village Renault garage and they did the greasing and I think they charged 8 euro. They were very interested in the car and spent some time looking over it and asking questions.
