Suns out, so thought I'll take the Aero to work this morning.....click click click click......bugger. Got is started so not a disaster and it goes for a service tomorrow, so we can take a better look then.

I did notice the ctek charger was flickering red/green this morning, so will take a good look at the terminals and use the other Ctec tonight to see.

43k and the battery is some 3y old so not totally unexpected.

The case is quite often because of a bad earth - not always, but often. check the earth strap is grounding ok.

Mark,
I have bought 3 new batteries in 4 years, although I am not sure it was money well spent. I now believe it is a moisture issue. Other posts in the past have suggested light corrosion on the brushes of the starter motor which prevents a clean start. Each start failure with a "click" removing a bit of this film. When I had my starter motor changed by Brian Miller, a couple of years ago the new starter worked well for 18 months then gradually the clicking returned. Changing batteries also helped, the extra zip of a new Odyssey would work for a while. Despite all this my latest solution of the "carcoon type bubble" is proving very effective, a 100% click free zone this winter. If you have another idea or solution let me know

On the battery front - mine has been swapped for a BMW branded battery - and despite a couple of careless drains - maintains a strong charge - and starting is no issue. (trickle charged most of the time).

Interestingly after the last drain the Cruise and AC stopped working - checked the fuses - and did a reset - and it was all working again.

No other solution than good preventative maintainence. The clicking is the solenoid firing, but as the starter motor draws too much current the solinoid closes. Now with no draw from the starter motor the solinoid can fire again with a click and so it repeats.

A good circuit with no corrosion and a healthy battery and a well greased starter motor are all part of the solution. My fag lighter connection was poor on the ctek meaning a less than chipper battery. It has worked ever since, so I will switch to eyelets direct to the battery

My S1 is on its original starter motor, had the clicking on numerous occasions but always eventually started assuming the battery was good. Cure appears to be regular use! Cause probably due to build up on contacts exasperated by moisture.
