Hi all, it was done at the dealer. Apparently MMC sent out a notification to dealers with the updated file. All done as a warranty job so nothing to pay. Not sure the dealer liked it and would have preferred doing it with a service but I do most of my own work so didn't want to wait.
It seems livelier up through the box at the low to mid range, top end doesn't seem any different.
It's an improvement overall I think.

Have the GDi engines got electronic throttles? My Ecotec engine also revs high from a cold start, it is due to the ECU going to the default limp revs setting until it gets a valid throttle site signal from the pedal.
I have never bothered to try to do anything it as I don't see it as a problem.

I think they are fly by wire, so yes.

I had my early GDI flashed at the end of April as part of it's annual service. Thought it better to comment after a few miles had been added, as the Laon trip was imminent.
Worst mpg 35 (on the tour & parade) and the best 42 (while travelling) although there must be errors in where the tank fill stop point is.
Generally noted the new revs to 2k on start up (which didn't happen before the upgrade) and the increased burble on the overrun. The exhaust is still sooty though despite 100's of miles at 2.5-3.0k revs. The hesitation at around 3k revs I had though, appears to have gone.
The jury is still out, I will have to compare it with my normal usage

CaptK,
So, you were also at Laon, hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. I'm interested in your observations on the ECU flash, I 'mailed the factory but of course they declined to reply, so rude. My GDI has the 2K revs on start up plus the exhaust burble and the sooty exhaust despite having done well over 4000 miles. A friend of mine also had his early GDI upgraded and it is now as per ours however, Techniques claim that the upgrade does away with the high revs on start up. I am confused, do I have it done or not? I got from Soissons to Norwich using approx. 2/3rd of a tank so I guess the fuel consumption for the journey was around 40mpg which is fine.

Reg, i had high revs before and after, didn't make a jot of difference, so my confusion is whether it is supposed to fix it or not.. otherwise it seems a good update.

My dealer informed me that some recent GDI's were revving to more than 2k on start up and so the new, lower 2k was partly in response to that. Yes, seeing the Techniques ad prompted that query. Laon was fun, the cobblestones left us with blurred vision though.

I must get back to Laon, we were there in 2007 and it was a wonderful experience.

Steve, Thanks for that. I spoke to the chaps at Krazy Horse who told me that they received the "upgrade" in Jan this year. I am just awaiting the return of their electronics chap and I will try to get to the bottom of this. If it is a worthwhile upgrade which improves things then yes, but at this moment in time I am totally confused.

I was at Brands Hatch Morgans this week and when Nick took me out in a White GDI we commented on the brief 2000rpm start up. It quickly settled down though. The car had a mere 93 miles on the clock and felt nice and tight but a bit harsh on rough surfaces as I guess it needed to bed in . Fit and finish were excellent. It felt very different to mine and I expect it would improve with use. I think (though not positive) that I would need to look at Roadsters although they had a black Plus Four on Roadster wires which looked the business. Nick by the way was absolutely first class, patient and informative. I liked him straight away.
