3 questions:
When did the Mazda gearbox become standard fitment into the Plus 4? If more recently than this, what gearbox is in our Plus 4 that rolled out of Malvern at the end of 2009?
Who manufactures the back axle?

The Mazda box started to go in to the cars late in 2011. Your box will be a Ford MT75. The current back axle is manufactured in Thailand by Spicer Dana and supplied to the factory from Holden Australia. Your 2009 one should be the same.

Jays timings tie in with what I was told at the Classic Car show November 2011 by the Morgan factory personel on the Morgan Stand at the next hall to the Classic Car show.
Therefore it would seem unlikley that an early 2010 car had an MX5 box as a standard factory fitment.
