Is an expert in this forum who can explain to me what kind of steering box the gemmer is (worm and roller, nut, peg, recirculating ball??)and in which other cars the same box as in the Morgan is used?
Thanks in advance Frank

Thanks, John,
I hadn't read the articles on Gomog but had heard the tale - and didn't believe it. So, as it seems, I have to search another substitute for my lousy Burman box. Any ideas?

Morgan Spares in New York State has a replacement. Maybe not the best but it works. It uses a "Unisteer" R&P for 1928 - 1932 Fords. I know of at least one +4 that uses this system and He likes it.

I have a Gemmer in my '63 +4-4Str. Good steering. But unobtainable.

Try Terry at G.E.E. He sourced a steering box for me several years ago.
Cheers, Mark

Cheers, Mark Worth a try Mark, but I think unobtainable. Morgan Spares had RHD several years ago but think they are gone now. Button

If i understand Gomog correctly the Gemmer box can be replaced by a Rack and pinion it might be possible to go for that option if you cannot get a Gemmer?

I managed to get one a while back which I intend to fit in my 1966 +4 using the 'Button guide' which probably came from the bedside reader. Couple of things I'm not 100% sure about but will either work it out or ask the man himself... (Button, I already have a TR7 upper column but am unclear on the bit to join that to the box?)
However, to the point which was that the MG TC steering box is often replaced by a VW box and if I hadn't managed to get a Gemmer box I was going to look at the VW option. Don't know whether they could be made fit, but was told by a friend who had both a Morgan and an MG TC with the conversion that they looked similar enough to be worth investigation.

I do agree that a Gemmer box is not readily available, but Terry can probably get you a new or rebuilt steering box that will work ("I have to search another substitute for my lousy Burman box. Any ideas?") to put you back on the road.
Cheers,
Mark
